	The 5th annual Algae Biomass Summit was held October 24-27, 2011 in Minneapolis, MN with 800 attendees from over 20 countries in attendance. The event featured 72 trade show exhibits, 100 poster presentations and 125 speakers. The Summit united industry professionals from all sectors of the world's algae utilization industries including, but not limited to, financing, algal ecology, genetic systems, carbon partitioning, engineering & analysis, biofuels, animal feeds, fertilizers, bioplastics, supplements and foods. The Summit also included a pre-conference finance symposium and workshop/tour hosted by the University of Minnesota.

	The primary program accomplishments have been achieved by the work of the Government & Public Relations Committee, the Technical Standards Committee and the Events Committee.Government and Public Relations Committee:ABO Position StatementsABO has developed a set of policy statements on a range of issues to inform members, reporters and others who wish to know the ABO's position on issues critical to the industry. These statements have been used with media, policy makers, elected officials and the general public upon request. In some cases, they also serve as guiding principles or strategic imperatives for the organization. These are updated and added to throughout the year, as circumstances dictate.

	This project with the National Biodiesel Board was to develop a comprehensive Algae Education Program. The target audience for such a program is non-technical; the consumer of the information are biofuels and clean energy enthusiasts, decision makers, environmental stewards and entrepreneurs. While the effort could be considered "curriculum" it is not intended to be academic - like a traditional course in microbiology. The web site provides a focus on algae for biodiesel by providing case studies on how algae-oil optimization can enhance biodiesel production.

The Board by resolution shall establish the amount payable by a Member of the EPC for the privilege of serving as a Non-Director Member or a Director-Member pursuant to the Executive Policy Council (Advocacy Assessment).The purpose of the Executive Policy Council shall be to increase public and governmental awareness of the algal biomass industry, its domestic and international benefits, barriers to growth, policies that could accelerate or enhance the realization of such benefits and mitigation or eliminated such barriers, and to encourage the growth of the algal biomass industry.
