GRANTS FROM THE FUND SUPPORT THE EDUCATION OF ASSOCIATE DEGREE REGISTERED NURSES IN THE CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGES.THE FOUNDATION ADMINISTERS THE CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGES SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT WHICH PROVIDES SCHOLARSHIPS TO THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS EACH YEAR FOR USE TOWARDS TEXTBOOKS, EQUIPMENT, UNIFORMS, AND OTHER INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPLIES.THE INITIATIVE FOR EGYPT PROGRAM PROVIDES YOUNG PROFESSIONALS FROM EGYPT A YEAR-LONG CRITICAL SKILLS TRAINING OPPORTUNITY AT COMMUNITY COLLEGES THROUGHOUT CALIFORNIA. THIS PROGRAM BRINGS OVER $5.5 MILLION OF FEDERAL FUNDS TO OUR SYSTEM AND REINFORCES U.S. COMMUNITY COLLEGES' EFFORTS TO BECOME INVOLVED IN INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION AND DEVELOP INTERNATIONAL TIES. PARTICIPANTS ARE TRAINED IN VARIOUS DISCIPLINES AND RETURN HOME WITH NEW SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES THAT ENABLE THEM TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF THEIR COUNTRY AND SOCIETY. FUNDED BY A BROADBAND TECHNOLOGY OPPORTUNITIES PROGRAM GRANT FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE NATIONAL TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION ADMINISTRATION, CALIFORNIA CONNECTS PROVIDES INTENSIVE OUTREACH AND HANDS-ON TRAINING TO STUDENTS, WHO WILL, IN TURN, EDUCATE OVER 60,000 NEW BROADBAND USERS AND INFLUENCE NEARLY 10,000 NEW BROADBAND ADOPTERS OVER THREE YEARS.
CHANGES IN PROGRAM SERVICES FORM 990, PART III, LINE 3 THE EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL (ECHS) INITIATIVE, FUNDED BY A MULTI-YEAR GRANT THAT COMPLETED ITS FUNDING PERIOD ON JUNE 30, 2010, WORKS WITH UNDERREPRESENTED STUDENTS WHO HISTORICALLY HAVE BEEN AT RISK FOR NOT ATTENDING COLLEGE. EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOLS ARE PARTNERSHIPS BETWEEN SECONDARY SCHOOLS AND LOCAL COLLEGES THAT ALLOW STUDENTS TO EARN A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA AND TWO YEARS OF COLLEGE CREDIT IN FIVE YEARS OR LESS AT NO COST. AS A RESULT OF THIS GRANT FUNDING, 23 ECHS PARTNERSHIPS WERE DEVELOPED INTO SELF-SUSTAINING OPERATING MODELS.
