What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? International Professional Association of Astronauts and Cosmonauts
Describe what was achieved in carrying out the organization's exempt purposes. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 Astronaut school visits particularly when complemented by supporting classroom lesson plans serve to enhance student interest in science engineering and mathematics. NASA receives thousands of requests annually for astronaut appearances and is able to fulfill only a small fraction of them. Many schools lack the resources to pay for an astronaut visit; ASE, in cooperation with the Johnson Space Center Astronaut Office, endeavors to fill as many of these unfunded requests as possible (10,000 students)

29 International Relations Programs, General/Other: Acting on its report, "Asteroid Threats: A Call for Global Response," the NEO Committee has co-sponsored a series of multi-space agency implementation workshops for each of the report's functional elements: information and warning, mission planning and operations, and authorization and oversight. A Mexico City meeting in January 2010, focused on the role of the NEO Information, Analysis, and Warning network (IAWN). ASE, ESA, and NASA again brought together representatives from the space-faring nations in October 2010 in Darmstadt, Germany, examining the establishment of the Mission Planning and Operations group (MPOG). Here, the space-faring nations discussed technology and planning considerations for a future NEO deflection. ASE will continue to co-sponsor these implementation meetings, and continues to actively support regular NEO negotiations at the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS). Windows on Earth: ASE partnered with the Technical Education Research Centers (TERC) to develop a museum and web-delivered 3D interactive Earth visualization system. Windows on Earth has four learning goals: 1) Earth literacy - learning about Earth's processes and understanding Earth as a dynamic, integrated system; 2) Visual literacy -working with visual information (Earth imagery) as a source of data; 3) Spirit of exploration - experiencing the joy, fascination and personally-driven curiosity that drive further Earth exploration; 4) Planetary stewardship - embracing and internalizing our connections with our home planet Earth and our individual roles in protecting it. An orbital version for astronaut earth observations was launched in October 2008 on a demonstration flight to the International Space Station onboard Soyuz TMA-13; ASE is currently working to establish a permanent presence for Windows on Earth aboard the ISS. ASE hosted its biannual National Congress, with three days of technical interchange with astronaut participation from 5 countries - in conjunction with the NASA/JSC Astronaut Reunion

30 International, Foreign Affairs & National Security: Seventy-three astronauts, cosmonauts and taikonauts from 19 countries convened in Moscow, Russia, 5-9 September 2011 for the XXIV Planetary Congress of the Association of Space Explorers. Hosted by the Russian chapter of ASE, the theme of the XXIV Congress was "He Invited us all to Space", celebrating the 50th anniversary of the flight of Yuri Gagarin. Attending astronauts and cosmonauts made over 20 technical presentations over 2 days at Bauman and Aviation Universities in Moscow, Russia. ASE established a European chapter of the Association and began working on the development of an Asian chapter.
