REDUCE/REUSE/RECYCLE: THE ERC HAS CLOSELY MONITORED LOCAL RECYCLING EFFORTS AND HAS SERVED AS THE VALLEY'S VOICE FOR RECYCLING FOR OVER 10 YEARS. THE ERC WAS A CATALYST IN THE RECENT MANAGEMENT SHIFT FROM THE SOLID WASTE DISTRICT TO THE COUNTY AND IS COMMITTED TO ENSURING THAT THIS DEVELOPMENT FOSTERS THE BEST POSSIBLE SOLID WASTE PROGRAM FOR THE COMMUNITY.
SECOND ACCOMPLISHMENT

WILD CONNECTIONS: THE WILD CONNECTIONS EFFORT IS COMPRISED OF A HOST OF SCIENCE-BASED ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS. THESE PROGRAMS CONTINUE TO BUILD PARTICIPANTS AND INCLUDE PROGRAMS SUCH AS THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL OUTREACH PROGRAM; SCIENCE AFTER SCHOOL; 3 SESSIONS OF A WEEK-LONG OVERNIGHT ECOLOGY CAMP; A MASTER NATURALIST PROGRAM AND MANY OTHER EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. CONTACT HOURS ACROSS THESE EFFORTS HAVE RISEN 63% IN THE PAST YEAR ALONE, IMPACTING OVER 1700 PEOPLE.

AFTER COORDINATING A REGIONAL "ENERGY SUMMIT" RESULTING IN AN ENERGY ACTION PLAN FOR THE REGION, THE ERC IS NOW WORKING WITH AN ENERGY TASK FORCE TO PRIORITIZE AND IMPLEMENT TANGIBLE ENERGY EFFICIENCY MEASURES AND CLEAN ENERGY GENERATION.

HOSTED THE VALLEY'S ONLY ECOCAMP, A WEEK-LONG OVERNIGHT ECOLOGY CAMP WITH NEARLY 50 HAPPY CAMPERS, COMBINING FUN AND ADVENTURE WHILE LEARNING ABOUT NATURE; PROTECTED YOUNG LUNGS BY ESTABLISHING IDLE-FREE ZONES AT LOCAL SCHOOLS AND BUSINESSES, RAISING AWARENESS OF HEALTH CONCERNS AND VEHICLE IDLING; FOSTERED ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP TO OVER 400 LOCAL CHILDREN THROUGH 36 JUNIOR NATURALIST EVENTS; OFFERED FASCINATING NATURE PROGRAMS COVERING TOPICS FROM TRACKING AND BEAVER WALKS TO WORM-COMPOSTING, ATTRACTING OVER 1700 ADULTS AND 1300 CHILDREN; ORGANIZED A REGIONAL COLLABORATION EFFORT THAT RESULTED IN THE COMMUNITY RECEIVING THE LARGEST STATE SUB-GRANT FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY; BEGAN ORGANIZING A REGIONAL ENERGY CONFERENCE FOR 2011; CREATED THE COMMUNITY'S ONLY LOCAL WEB RESOURCE ON LOCAL SUSTAINABILITY EFFORTS; CONTINUED TO HOST A LOCAL CHAPTER OF THE IDAHO MASTER NATURALISTS.
