Effective January 31, 2011, Elgin City Employees Credit Union was merged with Credit Union 1. Credit Union 1 was told that the previous CPA that filed previous 990's for Elgin City Employees Credit Union was to file the 2010 990. It was not discovered until we were notified by the IRS that a 990 form had not been filed. Based on investigation due from the IRS notice, it was determined that the CPA was given improper information in being told that he was not to file a 2010 990. As a result of the miscommunication the form 990 for tax year 2010 was not filed. On September 6th, I contacted the IRS and spoke to Mr. Auger # 014218L and also a specialist Mrs. Turner # XXX-XX-XXXX to explain the situation and was told to go ahead and file for the year 2010 and also for the one month of January 2011. After the filing of this form for the entire tax year 2010, I will prepare and file the 990 for the one month in 2011. The nonfiling was not intentional and I hope my explantion will be taken in consideration.
