SchD_P10_S00_L02 Schedule D, Part X, Line 2 UCNS is exempt from income taxes under Section 501 (c) (6) of the Internal Revenue Code and applicable state statutus and generally is not subject to income tax. UCNS adopted the income tax standard for uncertain tax positions on January 1, 2009. No liablility was recognized by UCNS as a result of the standards implementation. UCNS' 2008-2010 tax years are open for examination by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The entity files as a tax-exempt organization. Should that status be challenged in the future, all years since inception could be subject to review by the IRS.

The Audit committee reviews the for 990 and identifies any agreed upon changes to be made. All covered individuals are required to complete a conflict of interest disclosure statement annually, or as changes in personal circumstances occur. The statements are reviewed and actions determined according to the policy's administrative heirarchy. Board Directors or committee members with potential conflicts of interest are required to disclose them fully to the Board/Committee. At the discretion of the Board/Committee, the conflicted individual may be asked to recuse himself/herself from the discussion and/or vote on the issue in question. Proceedings related to conflicts of interest are documented in the meeting minutes.

The Executive Director is an employee of AAN and the filing organization reimburses AAN for the actual compensation amounts. A Bi-Annual salary survey is completed by an independent consultant that is selected by AAN. The report, the approved compensation philosophy, and annual performance review are used as a basis to set annual compensation. This process was last completed in 2011 for the Executive Director J. Kohring.
