MONTICELLO YOUTH FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION(MYFA) COORDINATES IN TACKLE FOOTBALL FOR 2ND AND 3RD GRADERS WHICH IS A BIG MOVE FROM PREVIOUS YEARS; THE 2ND AND 3RD GRADE PROGRAM HAS ALWAYS BEEN A FLAG FOOTBALL PROGRAM. THE MYFA FEELS THIS IS A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION TO MAKING THIS A FUN, SUCCESSFUL, COMPETITIVE PROGRAM. IN 2011 THERE WERE ABOUT 102 KIDS IN 2ND AND 3RD GRADE TACKLE. THESE TEAMS PLAYED AT THE MONTICELLO MIDDLE SCHOOL PRACTICE FIELDS ON THRUSDAY NIGHTS, COACHED BY PARENT VOLUNTEERS. THE SEASON BEGINS IN AUGUST AND ENDS IN SEPTEMBER. IN 2011 THERE WERE ABOUT 180 KIDS REGISTERED FOR 4TH-5TH AND 6TH GRADE TACKLE FOOTBALL WITH A TOTAL OF 10 TEAMS COACHED BY PARENT VOLUNTEERS. PRACTICES WERE HELD AT THE MONTICELLO HIGH SCHOOL PRACTICE FIELDS BEGINNING IN AUGUST. REGULAR SEASON GAMES STARTED IN SEPTEMBER; GAMES WERE PLAYED AGAINST OTHER TEAMS IN THE THREE RIVERS YOUTH FOOTBALL LEAGUE (TRYFL). EACH TEAM PLAYED BETWEEN 8 AND 11 GAMES IN 2011. THE NUMBER OF GAMES IS DETERMINED BY HOW FAR EACH TEAM MAKES IT IN THE PLAYOFFS. THE MFYA COORDINATES THE REGISTRATION OF PLAYERS; REFEREES AND COACHES. MYFA GETS PARENT VOLUNTEERS TO COACH EACH TEAM, AND RUNS BACKGROUND CHECKS ON ALL PARENT COACHES. THE MYFA HELPS FACILITATE A FOOTBALL CAMP RUN BY THE MONTICELLO MAGIC HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYERS AND COACHES. THE MYFA PROVIDES UNIFORMS, PAYS FOR EQUIPMENT AND PLAYING FIELDS, ORGANIZES TEAM PICTURES, AND ORGANIZES TEAM BUILDING EVENTS. THE MYFA FOOTBALL PLAYERS GET TO PARTICIPATE IN HALF-TIME ACTIVITIES DURING A YOUTH NIGHT DURING A MONTICELLO HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL GAME, ALSO THE KIDS RECEIVED PARTICIPATION AWARDS AND WERE GIVEN ENCOURAGEMENT AND A PEP TALK AT AN END OF THE YEAR EVENT. THE TRYFL COORDINATES SCHEDULING OF GAMES PLAYED WITH OTHER LOCAL COMMUNITLY TEAMS. TRYFL ALSO PROVIDES COACH AND REFEREE TRAINING, PAID FOR BY THE MYFA IN ADDITION TO PROVIDING APPROPRIATE RULE OF PLAY. THE MYFA WAS CREATED TO FOSTER LOCAL AMATEUR SPORTS COMPETITIONS. THE MYFA IS AN ORGANIZATION THAT IS CURRENTLY 100% OPERATED BY VOLUNTEERS (ALL PARENTS WITH CHILDREN PLAYING FOOTBALL). THESE VOLUNTEERS SPEND APPROXIMATELY 8-20 HOURS PER WEEK RUNNING THE PROGRAM DURING THE FOOTBALL SEASON. MYFA IS FUNDED BY FEES PAID BY THE FOOTBALL PLAYERS REGISTRATION FEES. IN 2011 WE DID NOT RECEIVE ANY DONATIONS FROM LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS.
