| 1) SUPPORT RECEIVED: OVER 800 ANNUAL FUNDRAISING LETTERS WERE MAILED; 81 DONATIONS RECEIVED (64 DONATED 15 TO 100 TOTALING 4,406 - 13 DONATED 150 TO 1,000 TOTALING 5,200 - 3 DONATED 2,000 OR 2,500 TOTALING 6,500 - 1 DONATED 25,000). HISTORICALLY THIS FOUNDATION HAS RAISED 14,000 TO 16,000 ANNUALLY. THIS YEAR THEY RAISED 16,106 PLUS THE ONE BIG DONATION OF 25,000. ONE WEALTHY FAMILY ESTABLISHED ONE OF SEVERAL RESIDENCES HERE IN BIG HORN WYOMING. SINCE MOVING INTO THE COMMUNITY THEY HAVE SHOWN A GOOD DEAL OF GENEROSITY TO SEVERAL ORGANIZATIONS AND ACTIVITIES IN THE COMMUNITIES OF SHERIDAN COUNTY. THERE IS NO CONNECTION OR CONTROL BETWEEN THIS ORGANIZATION AND THIS ONE DONOR. ALL PREVIOUS DONORS ARE SENT THE SAME LETTER OF SOLICITATION. IT IS COMPLETELY DEPENDENT ON EACH POTENTIAL DONOR'S GENEROSITY, FINANCIAL SITUATION, AND INCLINATION AS TO HOW MUCH IF ANY FUNDS ARE DONATED. 2) ACTIVITIES LIMITED TO REGION: THE MAILING LIST INCLUDES FORMER GRADUATES OF BIG HORN HIGH SCHOOL, WITHOUT RESTRICTIONS AS TO THEIR CURRENT RESIDENCE. HOWEVER, IT ALSO INCLUDES PEOPLE LIVING IN AND AROUND THE TOWN OF BIG HORN PLUS ORGANIZATIONS AND BUSINESSES IN SHERIDAN COUNTY; AND FORMER DONORS WHERE EVER THEY MAY BE SO LONG AS THE BOARD IS ABLE TO GET A NEW ADDRESS. THIS FISCAL YEAR DONATIONS CAME MOSTLY FROM INDIVIDUALS INCLUDING 5 SENT AS A MEMORIAL BUT THERE WERE ALSO 2 COMMUNITY CLUBS, 3 LOCAL FOUNDATIONS, AND 10 BUSINESSES. MOST DONORS ARE IN SHERIDAN COUNTY WYOMING BUT 6 WERE FROM MONTANA, 3 FROM OTHER WYOMING COUNTIES, 2 EACH FROM COLORADO AND CALIFORNIA, AND 1 EACH FROM FLORIDA, MICHIGAN, NEBRASKA, WASHINGTON, & WISCONSIN. 3) GOVERNING BODY: THE BOARD CONSISTS OF A DIVERSE GROUP OF INDIVIDUALS WITH COMMON INTEREST IN THE EDUCATION OF STUDENTS GRADUATING FROM BIG HORN HIGH SCHOOL. THEY REPRESENT A CROSS SECTION OF THE COMMUNITY WITH CURRENT BOARD MEMBERS RECRUITING NEW MEMBERS. THE CURRENT BOARD INCLUDES AN ATTORNEY, A STATE SENATOR, AN INVESTMENT ANALYST, RANCHERS, BUSINESS OWNERS, MANAGERS, EDUCATORS, AND PARENTS. ABOUT HALF OF THEM ARE BIG HORN HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI, INCLUDING THREE PAST RECIPIENTS OF THE SCHOLARSHIP. 4) SERVICE PROVIDED TO GENERAL PUBLIC: THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES A SERVICE TO THE GRADUATING CLASS OF BIG HORN HIGH SCHOOL BY AWARDING SCHOLARSHIPS ANNUALLY TO THE GRADUATING SENIORS. 5) PUBLICATIONS: THE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS ARE MADE AVAILABLE TO THE GRADUATING CLASS EITHER THROUGH THE GUIDANCE COUNSELOR OR BOARD MEMBERS. THE FUNDRAISING LETTERS ARE MAILED TO THE ENTIRE BIG HORN COMMUNITY. THE ORGANIZATION'S 25-YEAR HISTORY HAS ENSURED GENERAL AWARENESS OF THE SCHOLARSHIP AVAILABILITY. 6) PRESENTATIONS: THE SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS ARE ANNOUNCED AT GRADUATION AND THAT SERVES TO KEEP THE FAMILIES, STUDENTS AND COMMUNITY INFORMED AS TO THE AVAILABILITY OF THIS ORGANIZATION'S SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM. ALSO THE BOARD MAILS AN ANNUAL REPORT TO THEIR MAILING LIST TO PROVIDE DONORS WITH AN UPDATE ON RECIPIENTS. 7) CONTINUOUS & BONA FIDE PROGRAM: THIS ORGANIZATION HAS BEEN FUNCTIONING FOR THE PAST 25 YEARS AND HAS AN ANNUAL CYCLE. IN THE FALL FUNDRAISING LETTERS ARE MAILED. IN THE SPRING APPLICATIONS ARE RECEIVED, INTERVIEWS CONDUCTED, AND RECIPIENTS SELECTED. AT GRADUATION IN THE END OF MAY THE SCHOLARSHIPS ARE ANNOUNCED. THE FIRST HALF OF THE AWARD IS DISTRIBUTED TO THE EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS IN LATE AUGUST OR EARLY SEPTEMBER. THE REMAINDER OF EACH SCHOLARSHIP IS DISTRIBUTED TO THE EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS IN EARLY JANUARY. 8) PUBLIC CHARITY AND GOVERNMENTAL AGENCY: THIS ORGANIZATION DOES NOT SOLICIT FROM PUBLIC CHARITIES OR APPLY FOR GOVERNMENT GRANTS. 9) MEMBERSHIPS AND DUES: THIS ORGANIZATION DOES NOT HAVE MEMBERSHIPS, DOES NOT COLLECT DUES, OR OFFER SPECIAL PERKS OR RECOGNITION FOR ITS DONORS. 10) ACTIVITIES FOR PERSONS HAVING BROAD COMMON INTEREST: THIS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM APPEALS TO PERSONS WHO WANT TO INVEST IN THE FUTURE BY HELPING OUTSTANDING YOUNG PEOPLE ACHIEVE THEIR ACADEMIC ASPIRATIONS. |
