Briefly describe the organization’s mission: THE Long island Association's (LIA) MISSION IS TO LEAD and unify the region in order to strengthen Long Island as a place to live, work and do business. THE LIA was founded in 1926 and is one of the largest business organizations in the Long island region and in new york state. The LIA's membership is comprised of businesses, labor unions, UNIVERSITIES, not-for-profits, government agencies AND civic groups which employ two-thirds of long island's workforce. The Long Island Association: - Actively advocates the interests of, and promotes cooperation among, the business, labor, educational, scientific, technology, not-for-profit and civic communities. - seeks to create and retain balanced economic opportunities and jobs in a clean, healthy and safe environment. - as long island's chamber of commerce, provides valuable services and programs/representation to its membership organizations, particularly the small business community.

	The LIA is the organization looked to both on and off the Island to articulate Long Island's needs and its future direction. It works closely with organizations throughout the state and the country to positively influence public policy and to ensure a prosperous future for the region.

Schedule D, Part X, Line 2		LIA adopted the provisions of FASB Interpretation No. 48 (FIN 48") Accounting for Uncertainties in Income Taxes - an interpretation of FASB Statement No. 109," now incorporated in Accounting Standards Codification ("ASC") 740. ASC 740-10 clarifies the accounting for uncertainty in tax positions taken or expected to be taken in a tax return, including issues relating to financial statement recognition and measurement. This section provides that the tax effects from an uncertain tax position can be recognized in the financial statements only if the position is "more-likely-than-not" to be sustained if the position were to be challenged by a taxing authority. The assessment of the tax position is based solely on the technical merits of the position, without regard to the likelihood that the tax position may be challenged. LIA and the Foundation are classified as tax-exempt organizations under Sections 501(c)(6) and 501(c)(3) respectively of the Internal Revenue Service Code. Holding is a taxable entity. Nevertheless, LIA may be subject to tax on income unrelated to its exempt purpose, unless that income is otherwise excluded by the Code. The tax years ending December 31, 2008, 2009, and 2010 are still open to audit for both federal and state purposes. The adoption of ASC 740-10 did not have a material impact on the LIA financial statements, as management determined that there are no uncertain tax positions within its financial statements.
