28 MOVIE NIGHT AND OUTFITTER/PACKER PROGRAMOn June 10, 2012, the organization showed the movie "Three Miles an Hour" at the Swan Valley Community Hall to relate the story of Smoke Elser's pack trips into the Bob Marshall Wilderness. More than 50 adults and children enjoyed the movie as well as the presentation, informative demonstrations, and tales by local outfitters and cowboy poets explaining the history, experiences, and role of the outfitting business in the Swan Valley's past.

29 SPRING FLING PROGRAMOn May 12, 2012, the organization sponsored a ladies and girls luncheon and program in celebration of Mother's Day and spring with the oldest mother in attendance at 97 years old among the approximately 45 attendees. Activities included modeling favorite aprons from the past along with sharing the family stories and history that went with each.

30 ORAL HISTORY PROJECTOver the past decade, The Upper Swan Valley Oral History Project has recorded over 60 interviews with the early residents, along with collecting photographs, maps, documents, and other memorabilia. In 2011, the Upper Swan Valley Historical Society, Inc. produced a book, "Montana, Voices of the Swan", containing 65 historical summaries of recorded interviews with earlier settlers, their descendants, or others who knew the Swan Valley in former years. Their "voices" tell the story of lives of mingled hardship and joy in earlier days in the Swan Valley of Montana. The objective is to preserve the history and to make it available for present and future generations.

FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATIONOn July 4th, more than 250 adults and children visited the Upper Swan Valley Historical Society, Inc.'s annual history display and historical exhibits at the Swan Valley Community Hall which is the central meeting place for many of the community functions, and at the Museum and Heritage Site. In addition to the popular Historical Society photo and memorabilia exhibits, the organization served huckleberry ice cream, a Fourth of July tradition.

MUSEUM AND HERITAGE SITEOne of the programs of the Upper Swan Valley Historical Society, Inc. is management of the organization's Museum and Heritage Site established to showcase historical items, artifacts, and exhibits and to archive information and materials. There are no other government, cultural, or historic offices in this small, unique, rural community. During 2012, the organization improved the building and land at the local Museum and Heritage Site and continued with the goal to provide preservation of the cultural and historical heritage of the Swan Valley, Montana, and to provide educational and research opportunities for public benefit and enjoyment. In February 2012, the organization sponsored a workshop attended by more than 50 community members. The workshop was designed to formulate a strategy for the development of the Museum and Heritage Site and to address plans for maintaining the integrity of the valley, types of interactive historical exhibits, and potential challenges. In 2012, a homestead era freighter wagon and the historic Swan Valley Tavern were moved to the Museum and Historic Site to become the first outdoor interpretive exhibits.

NEWSLETTERSDuring 2012, the Upper Swan Valley Historical Society, Inc. continued the writing and publication of three quarterly newsletters and a Fourth of July program brochure that are mailed to approximately 600 full-time and part-time residents of the Swan Valley, Montana. Each newsletter is filled with program and project updates, local historical information, recipes, and personal stories. The Fourth of July brochure highlights the schedule of events for the annual community Fourth of July Celebration. Public information is also available on the organizations's web-site that features information on programs and activities for the benefit of the community.
