IN SHORT, WE SEEK TO ENRICH BARRY COUNTY THROUGH ART AND CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT. ON AN OPERATING BUDGET OF ONLY 60,000, IN 2011 WE PROVIDED: -SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ARTS EDUCATION(3,000) -JAZZ FESTIVAL THAT HOSTED OVER 40 SCHOOLS FROM AROUND THE STATE AND BROUGHT IN THOUSANDS OF VISITORS TO OUR COMMUNITY -ART PRIZE SPONSORSHIP FOR FIVE BARRY COUNTY AREA ARTISTS -A TEN WEEK MUSICAL CONCERT SERIES (FRIDAYS AT THE FOUNTAIN) -OTHER ART SERVICES FOR THE COMMUNITY

THROUGH THE THORNAPPLE ARTS COUNCIL JAZZ FESTIVAL WE PROVIDED OPPORTUNITIES FOR OVER 1,500 YOUTH TO RECEIVE JAZZ INSTRUCTION FROM PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANS. THE JAZZ FESTIVAL IS THE LARGEST NON-COMPETETIVE JAZZ FESTIVAL IN MICHIGAN THAT PAIRS STUDENTS AND PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANS.
SECOND ACCOMPLISHMENT

ARTS AND EATS IS A COLLABORATION AMONG BARRY COUNTY ORGANIZATIONS TO DEVELOP A BACK ROADS TOUR OF FOOD, ART AND FARMS. THE TWO-DAY TOUR FEATURED MORE THAT 30 LOCAL ARTISTS, STUDIOS AND GALLERIES. ARTS AND EATS PROVIDED BARRY COUNTY AREA ARTISTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO DISPLAY THEIR WORK TO THE PUBLIC AS WELL AS FEATURE THEMSELVES AS ENTREPRENEURS IN OUR COMMUNITY.
THIRD ACCOMPLISHMENT

OUR SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM, THE SUE DRUMMOND FUND, IS FOR SUPPORTING THE DREAMS, TALENTS AND ASPIRATIONS OF BUDDING ARTISTS IN BARRY COUNTY. LAST YEAR WE GRANTED 13 STUDENTS A TOTAL OF 2,990. EACH STUDENT RECEIVED EXCELLENT INSTRUCTION AND ADVICE FROM EXPERT TEACHERS AT CAMPS THROUGHOUT MICHIGAN. WITHOUT THIS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM, SOME OF THESE YOUTH SIMPLY WOULD NOT FINANCIALLY BE ABLE TO ATTEND. WE ALSO SPONSORED THE PARTICIPATION OF 5 OF OUR LOCAL ARTISTS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE GRAND RAPIDS ART PRIZE.
