What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? TO PROMOTE, ENCOURAGE & PRESERVE IRISH CULTURE IN MT AND NORTHERN ROCKIES; TO GATHER RESOURCES TO SUPPORT THE IRISH STUDIES PROGRAM AT U OF MT; TO OFFER GRANTS TO SUPPORT THE STUDY OF IRISH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 THE FRIENDS FULLY FUNDED THE IRISH DANCE COURSES TAUGHT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MONTANA IN THE SPRING AND FALL OF 2012. THESE COURSES INCLUDED THE TRADITIONAL COURSE IN STEP DANCING AS WELL AS A NEW OFFERING IN IRISH SEAN-NOS (OLD STYLE) DANCE, A VERY ANCIENT FORM OF DANCE STILL PRACTICED IN THE WEST OF IRELAND. 70 STUDENTS BENEFITTTED FROM THESE CLASSES WHICH ALSO HELPED TO FOSTER A LOVE OF IRISH DANCE IN THE COMMUNITY. THE FRIENDS ALSO DONATED MONEY TO THE IRISH LANGUAGE PROGRAM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MONTANA TO OFFSET THE COSTS OF BRINGING AN ADDITIONAL IRISH LANGUAGE TEACHER TO CAMPUS. THE TEACHER WAS ALSO A TRADITONAL DANCER WHO TAUGHT THE SEAN-NOS (OLD STYLE) DANCE CLASS MENTIONED ABOVE. THE FRIENDS REMAINED VERY ACTIVE IN THE COMMUNITY, SPONSORING TWO MUSICAL EVENTS IN MONTANA IN 2012. THE FIRST, HELD IN SEPTEMBER OF 2012, FEATURED A YOUNG AND UPCOMING IRISH TRADITONAL GROUP, FULLSET, WHO PERFORMED IN BUTTE AND MISSOULA. BOTH OF THESE EVENTS WERE VERY SUCCESSFUL AND ATTRACTED AN AUDIENCE FROM AS FAR AWAY AS SPOKANE, WASHINGTON. 600 PEOPLE ATTENDED THE CONCERTS. THIS WAS FOLLOWED BY A SHOW IN DECEMBER, IRISH CHRISTMAS IN AMERICA, WHICH FEATURED THE TRADITONAL IRISH BAND, TEADA. THIS SHOW PRESENTED SOME OF THE CUSTOMS, SONGS, HYMNS AND MUSIC TRADITIONAL OF AN IRISH CHRISTMAS AND WAS VERY WELL RECEIVED BY ALL WHO ATTENDED. AGAIN, THERE WERE OVER 600 PEOPLE WHO ATTENDED THESE CONCERTS.

30 THE FRIENDS ORGANIZED A TWO-WEEK IRISH LANGUAGE IMMERSION COURSE IN BUTTE, MONTANA, ONE OF ONLY TWO OFFERED IN THE UNITED STATES. THIS COURSE IS OFFERED TO THOSE UNABLE TO TRAVEL TO IRELAND TO LEARN THE LANGUAGE AND TO IMMERSE THEMSELVES IN IRISH GAELIC CULTURE. THE COURSE HAS GROWN TO ATTRACT STUDENTS WISHING TO IMPROVE THEIR CONVERSATIONAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE LANGUAGE, NON-TRADITONAL STUDENTS WHO HAVE BEEN LEARNING THE LANGUAGE THROUGH SMALL GROUPS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY AND TEACHERS SEEKING RECERTIFICATION. THE COURSE ATTRACTED LEARNERS FROM DIFFERENT STATES IN THE WEST AS WELL AS FROM MONTANA. A TOTAL OF 18 STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN 2012.

IN KEEPING WITH THEIR COMMITMENT OF PROMOTING AWARENESS OF AND A CLOSER ENGAGEMENT WITH IRISH CULTURE, THE FRIENDS SPONSORED A TRIP TO IRELAND. THIS WAS IN RESPONSE TO A DEMAND FROM THE COMMUNITY FOR A GUIDED TOUR TO THOSE PARTS OF IRELAND FROM WHICH THEIR ANCESTORS EMIGRATED. THE DEMAND FOR SUCH TRIPS IS A CLEAR INDICATION OF THE SUCCESS OF THE FRIENDS IN THE PURSUIT OF THEIR MISSION. A TOTAL OF 18 PEOPLE PARTICIPATED IN THE TOUR.

PRIMARY EXEMPT PURPOSE FORM 990-EZ, PART III TO PROMOTE, ENCOURAGE & PRESERVE IRISH CULTURE IN MT AND NORTHERN ROCKIES; TO GATHER RESOURCES TO SUPPORT THE IRISH STUDIES PROGRAM AT U OF MT; TO OFFER GRANTS TO SUPPORT THE STUDY OF IRISH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE.
FIRST ACCOMPLISHMENT FORM 990-EZ, PART III, LINE 28 THE FRIENDS FULLY FUNDED THE IRISH DANCE COURSES TAUGHT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MONTANA IN THE SPRING AND FALL OF 2012. THESE COURSES INCLUDED THE TRADITIONAL COURSE IN STEP DANCING AS WELL AS A NEW OFFERING IN IRISH SEAN-NOS (OLD STYLE) DANCE, A VERY ANCIENT FORM OF DANCE STILL PRACTICED IN THE WEST OF IRELAND. 70 STUDENTS BENEFITTTED FROM THESE CLASSES WHICH ALSO HELPED TO FOSTER A LOVE OF IRISH DANCE IN THE COMMUNITY. THE FRIENDS ALSO DONATED MONEY TO THE IRISH LANGUAGE PROGRAM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MONTANA TO OFFSET THE COSTS OF BRINGING AN ADDITIONAL IRISH LANGUAGE TEACHER TO CAMPUS. THE TEACHER WAS ALSO A TRADITONAL DANCER WHO TAUGHT THE SEAN-NOS (OLD STYLE) DANCE CLASS MENTIONED ABOVE. THE FRIENDS REMAINED VERY ACTIVE IN THE COMMUNITY, SPONSORING TWO MUSICAL EVENTS IN MONTANA IN 2012. THE FIRST, HELD IN SEPTEMBER OF 2012, FEATURED A YOUNG AND UPCOMING IRISH TRADITONAL GROUP, FULLSET, WHO PERFORMED IN BUTTE AND MISSOULA. BOTH OF THESE EVENTS WERE VERY SUCCESSFUL AND ATTRACTED AN AUDIENCE FROM AS FAR AWAY AS SPOKANE, WASHINGTON. 600 PEOPLE ATTENDED THE CONCERTS. THIS WAS FOLLOWED BY A SHOW IN DECEMBER, IRISH CHRISTMAS IN AMERICA, WHICH FEATURED THE TRADITONAL IRISH BAND, TEADA. THIS SHOW PRESENTED SOME OF THE CUSTOMS, SONGS, HYMNS AND MUSIC TRADITIONAL OF AN IRISH CHRISTMAS AND WAS VERY WELL RECEIVED BY ALL WHO ATTENDED. AGAIN, THERE WERE OVER 600 PEOPLE WHO ATTENDED THESE CONCERTS.
SECOND ACCOMPLISHMENT FORM 990-EZ, PART III, LINE 29 THE ORGANIZATON REMAINED VERY ACTIVE IN PROMOTING IRISH CULTURE IN THE COMMUNITY IN OTHER WAYS. IN MARCH, 2012, THE GROUP ORGANIZED A ST. PATRICK'S DAY CELEBRATION SUPPORTED BY OVER 300 PEOPLE, DRAWING MANY FROM OUTLYING AREAS INCLUDING HAMILTON, ANACONDA, HELENA, BUTTE & GREAT FALLS, MONTANA.
THIRD ACCOMPLISHMENT FORM 990-EZ, PART III, LINE 30 THE FRIENDS ORGANIZED A TWO-WEEK IRISH LANGUAGE IMMERSION COURSE IN BUTTE, MONTANA, ONE OF ONLY TWO OFFERED IN THE UNITED STATES. THIS COURSE IS OFFERED TO THOSE UNABLE TO TRAVEL TO IRELAND TO LEARN THE LANGUAGE AND TO IMMERSE THEMSELVES IN IRISH GAELIC CULTURE. THE COURSE HAS GROWN TO ATTRACT STUDENTS WISHING TO IMPROVE THEIR CONVERSATIONAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE LANGUAGE, NON-TRADITONAL STUDENTS WHO HAVE BEEN LEARNING THE LANGUAGE THROUGH SMALL GROUPS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY AND TEACHERS SEEKING RECERTIFICATION. THE COURSE ATTRACTED LEARNERS FROM DIFFERENT STATES IN THE WEST AS WELL AS FROM MONTANA. A TOTAL OF 18 STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN 2012.
ALL OTHER ACCOMPLISHMENT FORM 990-EZ, PART III, LINE 31 IN KEEPING WITH THEIR COMMITMENT OF PROMOTING AWARENESS OF AND A CLOSER ENGAGEMENT WITH IRISH CULTURE, THE FRIENDS SPONSORED A TRIP TO IRELAND. THIS WAS IN RESPONSE TO A DEMAND FROM THE COMMUNITY FOR A GUIDED TOUR TO THOSE PARTS OF IRELAND FROM WHICH THEIR ANCESTORS EMIGRATED. THE DEMAND FOR SUCH TRIPS IS A CLEAR INDICATION OF THE SUCCESS OF THE FRIENDS IN THE PURSUIT OF THEIR MISSION. A TOTAL OF 18 PEOPLE PARTICIPATED IN THE TOUR.
