FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION
MARYLAND CASA ASSOCIATION WORKS TO ENSURE THE RIGHTS OF ALL VICTIMS OF CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT IN MARYLAND TO SAFE, PERMANENT HOMES. THIS MISSION IS CARRIED OUT THROUGH THE DEVELOPMENT AND SUPPORT OF COURT APPOINTED SPECIAL ADVOCATES (CASA) PROGRAMS THAT RECRUIT, TRAIN AND SUPERVISE VOLUNTEERS APPOINTED BY THE COURT TO REPRESENT THE BEST INTEREST OF CHILDREN UNDER THE COURT'S PROTECTION. MARYLAND CASA PROVIDES SIX CORE SERVICES: TRAINING AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, PUBLIC AWARENESS, NEW PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT, COMMUNICATION AMONG CASA PROGRAMS, PUBLIC POLICY AND COURT DECISIONS, AND PROVIDE RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT, TECHNICAL SUPPORT.

VOLUNTEERING WITH CASA. MARYLAND CASA HELD ITS 7TH ANNUAL MARYLAND CASA CONFERENCE IN ANNAPOLIS, MD IN APRIL 2013. MORE THAN 160 CASA VOLUNTEERS, STAFF AND BOARD MEMBERS, AS WELL AS ATTORNEYS REPRESENTING CHILDREN ATTENDED THE FULL-DAY CONFERENCE. THE KEYNOTE SPEAKER WAS DR. DIANE DEPANFILIS, PROFESSOR AND ASSOCIATE DEAN FOR RESEARCH AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND SCHOOL OF SOCIAL WORK AND THE DIRECTOR OF THE RUTH H. YOUNG CENTER FOR FAMILIES AND CHILDREN, A RESEARCH CENTER DESIGNED TO PROMOTE THE SAFETY, PERMANENCY AND STABILITY, AND WELL-BEING OF CHILDREN, FAMILIES, AND COMMUNITIES. TEN WORKSHOPS WERE HELD ON WORKING WITH YOUTH WHO ARE TRANSITIONING OUT OF FOSTER CARE, WORKING WITH CHILDREN AND YOUTH WITH DISABILITIES AND SERIOUS MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES, VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT, ETC. CONFERENCE EVALUATIONS INDICATED A VERY HIGH LEVEL OF SATISFACTION WITH THE WORKSHOPS, SPEAKERS, ETC. MARYLAND CASA ALSO ASSISTED IN EFFORTS TO START A CASA PROGRAM IN ALLEGANY COUNTY, WHICH SHOULD BEGIN SERVING CHILDREN IN LATE 2013. MARYLAND CASA ALSO PROVIDED ONGOING TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO AFFILIATED CASA PROGRAMS TO SUPPORT THEIR EFFORTS TO SERVE CHILDREN.
