@D181 INITIATIVE IS A PILOT PROGRAM TO EVALUATE THE ADDED VALUE 1:1 TECHNOLOGY WOULD HAVE IN THE CLASSROOM. THE FOUNDATION PROVIDED FUNDING FOR 1:1 IPADS IN THE 5TH GRADE AT ELM SCHOOL AND 1:1 LAPTOP COMPUTERS IN THE 5TH GRADE AT THE LANE SCHOOL. TEACHERS DESIGNED NEW LESSON PLANS THAT INCORPORATED THE NEW TECHNOLOGY AND THOSE GROUPS WERE THEN COMPARED TO THE 5TH GRADE STUDENTS IN THE OTHER SCHOOLS TO SEE IF THE ADDED TECHNOLOGY IMPROVED SKILLS AND UNDERSTANDING.
SECOND ACCOMPLISHMENT

HMS TECHNOLOGY INITIATIVE INFUSED TECHNOLOGY INTO THE 8TH GRADE SCIENCE CLASSROOM BY PROVIDING A LAPTOP COMPUTER AT EACH LAB STATION. THIS ALLOWED THE TEACHER TO DESIGN MORE RELEVANT AND PERSONALIZED LEARNING EXPERIENCES IN THE CLASSROOM THAT ADAPTED TO INDIVIDUAL LEARNING STYLES. STUDENTS GAINED A GREATER UNDERSTANDING OF SCIENTIFIC CONCEPTS AND WERE ABLE TO MORE EASILY ANALYZE DATA AND REVIEW CLASSROOM LESSONS AT HOME.
THIRD ACCOMPLISHMENT

OAK MRC INITIATIVE (OR USING QR CODES FOR INDEPENDENT READING) IS TO INCREASE INDEPENDENT READING USING QR CODES AND IPADS TO HELP CHILDREN FIND BOOKS THAT INTEREST THEM. STUDENTS USE IPADS TO SCAN THE QR CODES IN BOOKS. THOSE CODES LEAD THEM TO A TRAILER WITH MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE BOOK. AS PART OF THE PROCESS, STUDENTS USE THE IPADS TO CREATE THEIR OWN BOOK TRAILERS THAT OTHER STUDENTS CAN WATCH WHEN THEY SCAN A BOOK'S QR CODE.
ALL OTHER ACCOMPLISHMENT

INCLUDED IN OTHER PROGRAM ACHIEVEMENTS ARE THE FOLLOWING: INQUIRY GRANTS IN THE AMOUNT OF 11,750. THE PURPOSE OF THE INQUIRY GRANT PROGRAM IS TO PROMOTE DISTRICT EDUCATORS TO INCORPORATE INQUIRY BASED LEARNING ACTIVITIES IN THE CLASSROOM. THE GRANT WAS USED TO PAY FOR 12 DISTRICT TEACHERS TO ATTEND A WEEK-LONG TRAINING PROGRAM ON HOW TO DEVELOP AND FACILITATE CRITICAL INQUIRY ACTIVITIES IN THEIR CLASSROOMS. KIDS GRANTS IN THE AMOUNT OF 1,334. THE PURPOSE OF KIDS GRANTS IS TO PROMOTE VOLUNTEERISM, COMMUNITY SERVICE AND SOCIAL AWARENESS AMOUNG DISTRICT STUDENTS. GRANTS WERE GIVEN TO 10 DISTRICT STUDENTS FOR A VARIETY OF PROGRAMS.
