Part X	Part X : FIN48 Footnote	On January 1, 2009, SEIU Local 49 adopted newly issued accounting rules that prescribe a new threshold for determining when an income tax benefit can be recognized, which is a higher threshold than the one imposed for claiming deductions on income tax returns. The adoption of the newly issued accounting rules did not have any impact on SEIU Local 49s financial statements. SEIU Local 49s federal information return is subject to possible examination by the taxing authorities until the expiration of the related statutes of limitations on those information returns. In general, the federal information return has a three year statute of limitations. Should that status be challenged in the future, SEIU Local 49s 2011, 2010 and 2009 tax years are open for examination by the Internal Revenue Service. SEIU Local 49 would recognize accrued interest and penalties associated with uncertain tax provisions, if any, as part of the income tax provision.
