Form 990, Part III, Line 4d
Form 990, Part III, Line 4d : Other Program Services Description
OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: Other programs include education, volunteer and community coordination and urban forest monitoring. Following are specific examples of our programs: We manage in-depth technical studies in partnership with regional and national government agencies to increase the scientific understanding of the benefits of the urban forest. The current two-year Urban Forests for Clean Air Demonstration Project will help determine the net impact of increasing tree canopy on improving our region's air quality. With our support, neighborhoods develop local partnerships, organize projects, and become empowered to enhance their trees and landscapes. We provide educational materials, training, practical tools, and logistical support to develop and maintain the local skills and focus needed to build truly great neighborhood tree programs and groups. Our NATURE program works to replenish and sustain the native flora and fauna of Sacramento County by replanting and protecting native trees and woodlands. We collaborate with the County of Sacramento and City of Elk Grove, as well as the development community, to plant and nurture native trees. Growing native acorns into young seedlings on the windowsill of classrooms invites young students to enter the natural world of exploration, wonder, and excitement. After a few months, these seedlings are transferred to a correctional center nursery and grown to a size appropriate for replanting at schools and local parks. Keeping our mature trees healthy is the focus of the Mistletoe Management Program. In partnership with the City of Sacramento, we offer low cost, professional tree pruning services and technical advice to residents to remove mistletoe and dead wood from privately owned trees. The Save the Elms Program is working to protect the heritage elm canopy from the threat of Dutch elm disease. In partnership with the City of Sacramento and volunteers, we monitor the trees and plant new disease-resistant elms. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: Greenprint: Greenprint is the Sacramento Tree Foundations bold vision to enhance the quality of life in our region by expanding the urban forest and maximizing the benefits of trees. We will accomplish this by mobilizing, educating, and empowering community partners and volunteers to plant 5 million trees. Greenprint builds partnerships with elected officials, service and faith groups, businesses, youth, and everyone who will help us reach our goal, including a dedicated team of 28 elected officials from local jurisdictions who stand up for trees in their communities and champion the regional urban forest. Just as blueprints are plans for craftsmen to construct buildings, Greenprint is our plan to build a thriving urban forest for the region. Greenprint is intended to complement the Blueprint, the regional smart growth plan adopted in 2004 by the Sacramento Area Council of Governments.
