Part X	Part X : FIN48 Footnote	On January 1, 2009, the Union adopted newly issued accounting rules that prescribe a new threshold for determining when an income tax benefit can be recognized, which is a higher threshold than the one imposed for claiming deductions on income tax returns. The adoption of the newly issued accounting rule did not have any impact on the Unions financial statement on the prescribed form. The Unions federal information returns are subject to possible examination by the taxing authorities until the expiration of the related statutes of limitations on those information returns. In general, the federal information return has a three year statute of limitations. The Union files as a tax-exempt organization. Should that status be challenged in the future, the Unions 2011, 2010 and 2009 tax years are open for examination by the Internal Revenue Service. The Union would recognize accrued interest and penalties associated with uncertain tax provisions, if any, as part of the income tax provision.
