Pt V, Line 35b
The Chapel Hill High School Band Booster Club, Inc. ("the
Booster Club") engages in fundraising special events as
listed on Schedule G, including selling gift certificates to
local grocery stores, staffing concessions stands at the
University of North Carolina home athletic events and at
certain Chapel Hill High School Fine Arts auditorium events,
and the hosting of a Swing Band Dance and auction event.
In addition, members and students participate in solicitation
events including fruit sales, Christmas Tree sales, and
other product sales. Finally, the Booster Club hosts other
direct fundraising special events including car washes, annual
barbeque dinners, local restaurant fundraiser nights, rummage sales
and PTA thrift shop and school service dates. These revenues and
expenses are reported on Part 1, lines 6a-6c.
All special event activities are performed to meet the Booster
Club's primary exempt purpose - to provide financial support
to the Chapel Hill High School Band programs.
The Booster Club believes these activities fall under the
exclusions from unrelated trades or business contained in
Section 513(a)(1)-(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Specifically,
the Booster Club confirms:
- all work for these activities are performed entirely
by volunteers without compensation;
- the activities are carried on mainly for the convenience
