OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: College Admissions Project pairs volunteer guides one-on-one with Orleans Parish, Louisiana public school seniors to guide them through the paperwork and requirements necessary to gain successful entry into a college of their choice. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: Leadership Development Series (LDS) is the first formalized "class" that teaches members the basics of running a nonprofit organization or a YLC project. Over a period of months, class members develop a concept for a project or organization. Each week they receive specific direction about Fundraising, Community Relationships, Volunteer Recruitment, Finances, Marketing, and other categories that are vital to a successful organization. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: The Le Vert Home Tour is an annual tour of residential homes that have incorporated "green" aspects such as sustainable designs and environmentally friendly, innovative techniques. The tour is intended to help educate the community of the advantages and ease of implementing these aspects. The project seeks to create and educate New Orleanians about ways they can cut their carbon footprint. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 7: Power Ties is a career awareness program that links professionals from various occupations with middle school students at the New Orleans, Louisiana, public schools: Langston Hughes Academy, McDonogh City Park Academy and Arthur Ashe Charter School through a series of career-oriented workshops. The YLC operates this program in cooperation with New Orleans Outreach. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 8: The YLC Toastmasters Club is a small group of young professionals that meet twice each month to develop public speaking and leadership skills through practice and feedback. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 9: Helping Hands seeks to connect projects and initiatives across the city that are in need of volunteers to the YLC members. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 10: RECreate is a youth recreation program that offers high quality, accessible, and educational recreation activities to youth in the Central City area. RECreate participants are ages 7-14. Programs include a basketball program consisting of coached practices, drills, games, and a tournament. A cultural awareness class is also offered where participants learn the history of the Central City ARea, Mardi Gras Indian tradition, African American history, African dance, and African American greek step. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 11: Youth Run New Orleans (YRNOLA) exposes middle and high school students to the benefits of exercise and a healthy lifestyle. These students develop the skills necessary to being successful in the race, classroom, and community. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 12: Volunteer in the Arts (VITA) is a dedicated program focused on coordinating volunteers for arts-based events. VITA allows young professionals who may not otherwise be able to afford admission to some of these events a chance to experience them as volunteers. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 13: OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 14: The Kicks project serves to support the newly implemented New Orleans Recreation Department (NORD) soccer program.
