CASCADE LOCKS PARK ASSOCIATION IS A 501(C)(3) ORGANIZATION FOUNDED IN 1989, OUR MISSION IS TO PRESERVE, PROTECT AND PROMOTE THE INDUSTRIAL, COMMERCIAL, AND CULTURAL HERITAGE OF THE CASCADE LOCKS PARK ALONG LOCKS 10-16 OF THE OHIO & ERIE CANAL. OUR VISION IS TO ESTABLISH A UNIQUE DESTINATION SERVING AS A NORTHERN GATEWAY, LINKING THE CITY OF AKRON TO THE CUYAHOGA VALLEY.

IN 2012, THE CLPA MUSTILL STORE HAD THE SUPPORT OF 66 VOLUNTEERS, WHILE THE REST OF THE VOLUNTEERS PROVIDED CHILDREN AND EDUCATIONAL TOURS AND SUPPORT AT FUNDRAISERS.
FIRST ACCOMPLISHMENT DESCRIPTION

CLPA HAS INCREASED THE NUMBER OF SCHOOL CHILDREN IN OUR EDUCATION PROGRAMS TO 517 IN 2012. CLPA HAS CREATED A NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH NATIONAL INVENTORS HALL OF FAME STEM SCHOOL ON PROJECT BASED LEARNING. CLPA PROVIDES LESSON PLANS BASED ON SCHUMACHER MILL SITE TO INCORPORATE MATH, ENGLISH AND SCIENCE AROUND THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE MILL SITE WHEEL AND INDUSTRIAL APPLICATION AND THE IMPACT ON GROWTH IN EARLY AKRON. OVER 100 SEVENTH GRADERS HAVE VISITED THE MILL SITE PARK SEVERAL TIMES AND USED THEIR FINDINGS AS A PROJECT BASED LEARNING EXPERIENCE. FINAL RESULTS WERE PRESENTED TO THE COMMUNITY AND AREA LEADERS INCLUDING THE MAYOR. COMPUTER AIDED DESIGNS WERE PREPARED BY THE STUDENTS AND PRESENTED TO EXPLAIN HOW THE LOCKS WORK. THE STUDY OF THE CANAL AND LOCK SYSTEMS REQUIRED THE PRACTICAL STUDY OF LOGISTICS, ENGINEERING AND COMMERCE. PLANS TO ROLL THIS PROGRAM OUT TO AREA SENIORS WERE PRESENTED AND WILL TAKE PLACE IN THE NEAR FUTURE. ANNUAL VISITS TO THE SCHUMACHER MILL SITE PARK AND THE HISTORIC MUSTILL STORE ARE MADE BY 3RD GRADERS. VOLUNTEERS PROVIDE INFORMATIVE TOURS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. A VIDEO ABOUT AKRON'S GREAT FLOOD OF 1913 WAS MADE USING VARIOUS ARCHIVES AND RUNS ON A CONTINUOUS LOOP IN THE MUSTILL STORE FOR ALL VISITORS TO VIEW. WE HAVE INCREASED THE NUMBER OF DAYS THE MUSTILL STORE AND MUSEUM ARE OPEN FROM 2-3 (WEDNESDAY, SATURDAY, SUNDAY) AND PLAN TO EXPAND TO 7 DAYS. ON WEDNESDAYS OUR MUSIC AND LUNCH SERIES BRINGS IN AN AVERAGE OF 20 VISITORS. WE FREQUENTLY HAVE VISITORS FORM SUMMIT DD BOARD'S WEAVER WORKSHOP AT OUR LUNCH AND MUSIC SERIES.
