Statement of Program Service Accomplishments
Check if Schedule O contains a response to any question in this Part III .........
1
Briefly describe the organization’s mission: OMRF is dedicated to developing a better understanding of and more effective treatments for human disease.
2
Did the organization undertake any significant program services during the year which were not listed on
the prior Form 990 or 990-EZ? ....................
If “Yes,” describe these new services on Schedule O.
3
Did the organization cease conducting, or make significant changes in how it conducts, any program services? ..........................
If “Yes,” describe these changes on Schedule O.
4
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. Section 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations and section 4947(a)(1) trusts are required to report the amount of grants and allocations to others, the total expenses, and revenue, if any, for each program service reported.
4a (Code:   ) (Expenses $ 15,417,841 including grants of $   ) (Revenue $ 12,004,140 )
Arthritis and Clinical Immunology - In 2012, researchers in this program published 81 new research studies in national and international scientific journals. These studies detailed a wide array of discoveries by OMRF scientists about autoimmune diseases, conditions in which the body's immune system turns against itself. Those discoveries included: new insights into the genetic roots of lupus and rheumatoid arthritis; the results of major clinical trials exploring new treatments for lupus and multiple sclerosis; examinations of disparities in these conditions among minority and Native populations; and methods of predicting pregnancy outcomes in patients suffering from these illnesses. Clinically, in only its second year of operation, OMRF's Multiple Sclerosis Center of Excellence surpassed 3,000 patients. This marriage of clinical and laboratory science helped OMRF earn a designation from the National Institutes of Health as one of only seven centers of Autoimmune Disease Prevention in the US.
4b (Code:   ) (Expenses $ 6,263,966 including grants of $   ) (Revenue $ 5,466,831 )
Cardiovascular Biology - The creation of blood vessels plays a key role not only in heart disease but also in the growth of cancers. OMRF scientists made an important finding about how a family of proteins known as epsins can stunt the growth of some cancerous tumors. Using cell cultures and laboratory mice, the researchers removed epsin from the system. They expected to see unrestricted blood vessel growth and large, aggressive tumors. Instead, they found the opposite. Their findings, published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation, could lead to new therapies for breast cancer and other forms of cancer. This year, OMRF's cardiovascular biologists also made an important discovery in the field of adult stem cells. They identified a specialized adult stem cell that, when coupled with reduced cholesterol in the blood, helped shrink arterial plaques. The discovery could play a key role in helping those with cardiovascular disease restore heart health.
4c (Code:   ) (Expenses $ 3,432,449 including grants of $   ) (Revenue $ 2,151,242 )
Immunobiology and Cancer - Scientists in this research program continued their investigations into the immune system. In particular, their work examined how the system is built and maintained and how defects in this intricate process can result in immune diseases and cancer. In 2012, they made a surprising breakthrough on how chronic infections contribute to defects in the immune system as we age. Their work also proved instrumental in casting light on how fat cells develop. This breakthrough will serve as a building block as scientists at OMRF and elsewhere work toward the development of new and more effective ways to prevent and treat heart disease.

The Board of Directors may at any time amend or revoke this delegation of powers.
F990_P06_S0A_L02 Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 2 The Foundation currently has 88 directors, many of whom are business leaders and members of prominent families in the State of Oklahoma. The Foundation believes there are multiple business relationships between and among board members and families of Board members, but the Foundation review of signed conflict of interest disclosures from all board members and of the Foundation's ledger accounts indicated there are no such relationships that would impair the fiduciary duties of any director to the Foundation.
F990_P06_S0B_L11b Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11b A summary of the Form 990 is presented for review to the Executive Committee. Subsequent to that review, the Form 990 with all supplemental schedules is made available to all members of the board of directors for review and comment prior to filing.
F990_P06_S0B_L12c Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12c Each director, office and key employee is annually provided with a copy of the Foundation's conflict of interest policy. Each of these individuals is annually provided with a questionnaire regarding potential conflicts and required to disclose any potential conflict that he or she might have. In addition, each of these individuals must annually sign a statement affirming that he or she has; received a copy of the conflicts of interest policy, read and understood the policy and agrees to comply with the policy. Once the Foundation has collected annual disclosure statements from all directors, officer and key employees, the Foundation's Governance committee review such information to identify situations in which a conflict exists and is material. If a material conflict is identified, the committee analyzes whether the contemplated transaction may be authorized as just, fair, and reasonable to the Foundation. The Governance Committee then makes a recommendation to the Foundations' Executive Committee regarding the management of all potential conflicts it has identified. The final decision as to the approval and , where applicable, management of all such potential conflicts rests in the sole discretion of the Executive Committee, which make such decisions based upon the welfare of the Foundation and the advancement of its purpose. The recommendations of the Governance Committee and decisions of the Executive Committee are documented in the respective minutes of these Committees' regular meetings.
