Form 990-EZ, General Explanation.1 Embezzlement Loss The embezzlement loss represents the amount of funds which has been determined by Management of the Association to be unauthorized. The scheme to defraud the Association was uncovered in February of 2012. The former accounting director of the Association has pled guilty to misappropriation of funds from the Association.Summary of misappropriated funds by year for the South Carolina Hotel/Motel Associaiton were: 2010 2011 2012 TotalEmbezzlement Loss $31,044 $31,048 $0 $62,092On August 14, 2012, the former accounting director was sentenced in federal court to 30 months in prison. The federal judge ordered the former accounting director to pay back the embezzled funds to the Association in payments of no less than $100 each month, to begin 60 days after her release from prison.The total amount of embezzled funds for the South Carolina Hospitality Association and affiliates was $486,034.
