1. Education, Culture and Youth Services: The Greater Miami Jewish Federation is working to secure a strong Jewish future. Today 1 in 8 people in Miami's Jewish community continues to depend on Federation and our local partners for some form of financial assistance. The Federation campaign funds 106 agencies and programs in Miami, nationally, in Israel and in more than 70 other countries around the world. 3,338 children are currently enrolled in 12 Federation-supported Jewish Day schools in Miami-Dade County, ranging from early childhood to 12th grade. The Federation provided $3,764,605 in formal educational Day School funding. More than half the students received scholarship assistance. For those students whose families still need more help, Federation provided $275,000 in additional hardship scholarship assistance to enable 321 students to remain in Day School; almost 200 students participate in 10 synagogue supplemental programs, enhancing their understanding and appreciation of our rich Jewish heritage, for which Federation provided $80,000 in funding. 730 young adults from Miami participated in Israel Experience Programs, including 527 who went on Taglit-Birthright Israel for which Federation provided $211,526; 100 who received need-based Israel program scholarships for which Federation provided $60,000; 45 who participated in Passport to Israel and 58 who attended Alexander Muss High School in Israel for which Federation provided $145,645. Over the past year, nearly 29,000 North American traveled on Birthright Israel trips, forever connecting them to our spiritual homeland and deepening their understanding of Israel's centrality to the Jewish people. Nearly 4,000 Miami adults have participated since the programs inception in 2000. Last year Federation awarded 135 need-based scholarships and 50 incentive grants for first-time campers, enabling Miami- Dade children to attend Jewish overnight camps. For nearly 1 in 7 first-time campers receiving funding, this was there only Jewish activity. Overnight summer camp ensures a positive connection for a youngster that lasts well into adulthood. Through the Jewish Community Centers, 138 children and young adults with special needs participated in a variety of inclusion programs, such as summer camp, afterschool care, pre-vocational training and daily life skill development. Federation provided funding of $100,000 toward this initiative. Having a strong Jewish presence on the college campus is critical today for students. More than $437,000 in Federation funding supports Hillel programs on seven university campuses throughout Florida, providing programming for 30,000 Jewish students. More than 100,000 people visited the Holocaust Memorial of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation through informal visits and formal educational programs. Through Federation's Jewish Volunteer center's Young Lion of Judah program, 25 pre-Bar/Bat Mitzvah students were paired with 25 Miami area Holocaust survivors to share experiences. The Federation supports three Jewish Community Centers in Miami with an allocation of more than $2,088,000 which provides programming and activities for members of all ages. Additionally, by grants from the Foundation of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation through Donor Advised Funds and Other Designated Funds, the Foundation is able to fulfill its charitable objectives, provide funds for emergencies, and develop resources necessary to address future opportunities and needs for the community.
4b (Code:   ) (Expenses $ 7,313,139 including grants of $ 7,313,139 ) (Revenue $ 0 )
2. Overseas Programs and Services: For decades the Federation has been committed to the welfare of the Jewish people worldwide and ensuring that isolated Jews are not forgotten. In the former Soviet Union, throughout Latin America and Europe and in 70 countries around the world Federation has supported programs and services that both care for the vulnerable aging populations and foster Jewish renewal among younger generations. Federation works with the Jewish Federations of North America and its overseas partners, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) and the Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI). Nearly 60,000 people are participating in JDC-sponsored renewal activities across the former Soviet Union particularly in Jewish Community Centers which have become a cornerstone of this effort. Federation funding supports $252,000 in welfare relief which reaches 160,000 elderly Jewish clients in the FSU at 2,824 locations, providing food, medicine and medical care, home care, winter relief and more. In the Former Soviet Union, JDC furnished critical nutritional and medical assistance to more than 30,000 Jewish children and their families. In Europe, JDC provided food and essential welfare services for nearly 26,000 elderly Jews. JDC also helped 1,500 economically vulnerable Jewish children, connecting them and their families to Jewish life. A JAFI operated supplementary Jewish education program for 12-to 17- year old children in Argentina served 2,000 youngsters in 60 centers. Through JAFI, 11,000 Jews in the FSU are learning Hebrew and Jewish culture and more than 20,000 young Jews attending health clubs are connecting to Jewish history and heritage. Some 10,000 youth in 44 Jewish Day Schools and 2,000 in 90 Sunday schools in the FSU benefit from the JAFI education programs. Jewish communities in Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey and India receive support to care for elderly in facilities that provide residential care, full medical services, recreational and therapeutic services, excursions, and holiday events for residents. Federation allocated $138,000 to help nearly 180 children at risk in Yerucham through the Youth Futures Program, helping them achieve greater academic success and maturity. Additionally, through Youth Futures, 100,000 at-risk children in Israel received guidance from adult mentors through the Jewish Agency for Israel's (JAFI) Youth Futures including 161 in Miami's Israeli partnership city of Yerucham, enabling them to take their place as independent, productive members of society. To foster strong connections with the people of Israel, Federation, on behalf of Miami's Jewish community maintains successful partnerships with the cities or Or Akiva and Yerucham. Federation allocated $296,600 to these two cities. Also, Federation allocated $252,000 to the partnership initiative in Pardes Channa-Kakur including extra funding to keep a scholastic assistance program operating to provide after school tutoring, workshops, mentoring and enrichment. 3,765 Ethiopian Israeli students in 22 cities received afterschool scholastic assistance through the Ethiopian National Project. In addition, 1,600 at-risk Ethiopian Israeli teenagers participated in activities at Ethiopian national project's 16 Youth Outreach Centers. Federation's Women's Amutot initiative funds 19 non-profit agencies focusing exclusively on the welfare of marginalized, voiceless and at-risk women and girls in Israel. A Federation funded emergency hotline for battered and sexually abused women in southern Israel received 9,264 calls and provided information, counseling and support services to these families in crisis. These organizations focus on economic empowerment, social empowerment, protection against violence, prevention of violence, and leadership development. Federation provided $241,600 toward this initiative. With Federation support, the OR Akiva Community Center operates a Volunteer center that assists 150 families daily with food, clothing, tutoring and afterschool activities for children, addiction counseling, life-cycle events, and household repairs. 8,793 children and adults with developmental disabilities in Israel received therapeutic and educational services through JDC. Programs offered by JAFI helped 562 lone soldiers, who immigrated to Israel without immediate family, serve in the Israel defense Forces. These programs strengthen their Jewish and Zionist identity. Yesodot provided 2,500 newly arrived Ethiopians of preschool through high school age with enrichment programs that helped them to acclimate into Israeli society while still residing in 16 absorption centers operated by Federation's partner, the Jewish Agency for Israel. Through Leket Israel, 9 million pounds of fruits and vegetables were harvested last year from over 300 farms throughout Israel. The produce was then delivered to more than 290 nonprofit organizations that ensure the hungry have sufficient and nutritious food. MASA Israel welcomed more than 10,000 Jewish young adults from around the world to participate in long-term Israel experiences that strengthen their Jewish identity and connection to Israel.

3. Human Services Programs, General/Other: The Greater Miami Jewish Federation, through its network of beneficiary agencies and services, provides for the humanitarian needs of people of all ages. The Federation helps those in need of food, housing transportation, counseling, socialization and more, all in a Jewish setting. The Jewish community's 24 hour Access and Information hotline operated by Jewish Community services of South Florida received nearly 12,000 requests for assistance, many of which resulted in direct aid, referrals, counseling and emergency grant from Federation and our partner agencies. $108,000 in emergency assistance grants were provided to 158 individuals or families in need. 37 interest free loans, amounting to $47,100 for housing assistance, emergency needs, education, auto expenses, medical bills, Bar Mitzvah costs and credit card debt, were provided by the Hebrew Free Loan Association of South Florida. Parnossah Works Miami, the Federation's community employment program, provided career counseling to 350 jobseekers and helped 165 people find employment. There were 3,000 visits to the Jewish Community Services (JCS) Kosher Food Bank, serving more than 700 individuals and families. Through JCS home delivered and congregate meal programs, 250,000 kosher meals were provided to homebound seniors and at five sites across Miami-Dade County. These meals provided important nutrition and a community connection for seniors able to live independently in their homes. 400 Holocaust survivors in Miami-Dade County received personalized and comprehensive case management services through JCS to assist with coordinating care, obtaining benefits and general support. There were approximately 120,000 hours of in-home care provided to this population last year, in order to ensure that our Survivor community is able to live safely and independently. Assistance securing Medicaid coverage, food stamps and other forms of support for 325 individuals. 50,000 Senior Rides for over 600 individuals, transporting elderly adults to the grocery store, pharmacy or doctor's office when they can no longer drive. The purposes of these programs and similar type programs are to provide a mechanism to ensure the future viability of Miami's organized Jewish community. As part of this community outreach, the Federations Jewish Volunteer Center (JVC) promotes greater volunteer participation in the delivery of direct services; to expand the services agencies could provide at a lower cost; and to promote volunteerism as a way of enhancing Jewish identification and involvement. Also, there are programs which enhance volunteer involvement by: assessing organizational needs; understanding current trends and issues; creating meaningful opportunities for volunteers; exploring volunteerism by infusing Jewish values; examining high quality models for volunteer recruitment, retention, and enhancement. Offering one -time family friendly programs and ongoing individual activities, the JVC enabled more than 4,000 people to engage in acts of kindness and provide 16,000 hours of volunteerism- equal to nearly a half million dollars of paid time. With Federation support, JCS provided nearly 100 at-risk and abused women and children with case management, housing, food and legal and financial assistance, as well as day care for the children, through the Shalom Bayit Domestic Violence Prevention Program. Through the Jewish Chaplaincy Program's Refuat Ha'Nefesh Jewish Spiritual Care Visiting Program, 32 volunteers learned how to bring comfort, solace and joy to hundreds of people in Miami's Jewish community experiencing a variety of personal difficulties. Approximately 1,500 hours were spent visiting those in need. More than 1,200 concerned individuals came together for a Community Summit to become educated and empowered to combat a worldwide campaign to delegitimize and demonize Israel through boycotts, divestment and sanctions. The event was convened by the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, in partnership with many other organizations and sponsors. Advocating on behalf of Miami-Dade County's most vulnerable Jewish populations, the JCRC worked tirelessly with governmental leaders to ensure that over $3 million in direct government funding of social services was provided to Federation partner agencies, that over $200 million of social safety net reimbursement funding from government sources was preserved, and that over $ 1 million was awarded as homeland security grants to Jewish institutions. The Federation has programs to increase Community Development and Leadership by reaching out to all constituencies, especially, North Dade, Women's Philanthropy, Agency Lay leaders and new donors to the Federation. The purpose of the programs is to build community involvement in the Federation; educate future lay leaders; build a core of future leaders to lead Federation and Agencies. Educating the next generation of leaders has always been a focal point of Federation, as well as the oversight of program delivery systems. The PJ Library of Miami and its implementing partners hosted numerous family programs weekly on Jewish values and celebrations. This is in addition to the books and music sent to 2,500 families through local funding. Moishe House Miami, a new Federation initiative with special funding from generous donors, based in a downtown Miami apartment and organized by and for Jewish adults in their 20's, hosted 27 Shabbat, holiday, educational, community-service and social programs for more than 435 participants. Since March 2011, federation has sent a weekly Community Post email to 30,000 people, highlighting select news events. By the end of December, more than 200 separate organizations and individuals had added their voices to the online publication. The Miami mega Mission 2012 brought more than 700 Miami residents on an unforgettable journey to Israel in April 2012- the largest community mission to Israel in more than a decade. Years ago, Federation embarked on a bold initiative through the creation of the Foundation for Jewish Renewal. A variety of programs were developed, including the High Holiday Welcome Project, which provides worship opportunities at no cost to more than 3,000 people annually. Through its Organization for Leadership Advancement in Miami, the Federation offers skills based workshops on Jewish values and leadership techniques to participants representing over 31 synagogues and day schools, as well as 29 agencies and national organizations. The economic downturn has created an unprecedented number of requests for aid in the Jewish community. Committed to helping our beneficiary agencies assist the most vulnerable, the Foundation took extraordinary measures to sustain funding to these agencies through special grants of $673,000. The infusion of Foundation funds have helped to provide food, emergency financial assistance, employment and emotional counseling, home healthcare support, daycare scholarships and more.

Identifier Return Reference Explanation
SchI_P01_S00_L02 Schedule I, Part I, Line 2 When funds are granted for a specific project, there is usually a grant agreement or letter of direction which includes reporting requirements. For general support grants, there are no reporting requirements. The tax status and public charity classification of all grantees is verified. If adverse information about a possible misuse of funds by a grantee is obtained, e.g., through reports in the media, grants to that organization are subject to further scrutiny and additional information may be required. Grants for general assistance are monitored by the Planning and Allocations department which requires reports and financial data indicating how funds are utilized.
SchI_P02_S00_L02 Schedule I, Part II, Line 2 Greater Miami Jewish Federation reports grants on Schedule I to the Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA), which is a 501(c)(3) domestic U.S. charity. In additon, JFNA, and its beneficiary agencies, United Israel Appeal (UIA), a subsidiary of JFNA, and the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) - both 501(c)(3) organizations- each file a separate Form 990 and detailed Schedules F.
