What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? The purpose of the Louisiana Assisted Living Association is to advance the assisted living industry through provider education, respond with advocacy on regulatory and legislative issues related to senior living, enhance the quality of life for the consumers served by our member assisted living communities, and serve as a source of information regarding assisted living services in Louisiana.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 Membership Growth: Online Training Partnership: Advocacy: LALA representatives met numerous times during the year with representatives of the Louisiana Department of Health & Hospitals (DHH) to discuss issues related to Adult Residential Care Provider regulations and licensing standards. During the 2012 Legislative session, LALA representatives met with lawmakers to discuss legislation regarding Adult Residential Care licensing and medication management issues of concerns to assisted living residents and their families.A Resource to Consumers and Providers: LALA provided educational and resource information regarding assisted living to consumers, the news media and other provider groups. We also provided assistance to our members as needed in resolving regulatory issues, survey deficiencies and resident complaints.Member Communication: The Association provided periodic email updates to members throughout the year on regulatory and legislative topics of interest, and other news of interest to assisted living providers.

29 Education: In 2012, LALA planned a number of continuing education programs for assisted living owners and top-level administrators. 94 assisted living professionals and sponsors attended our Spring Symposium on March 28, 2012 in Baton Rouge. This program focused on assisted living regulatory and legislative updates, inspections and complaint investigations by the state regulatory agency, and health care monitoring. Our Summer " Boot Camp" was offered via a series of one-hour webinars delivered via the Internet, with approximately 125 participants. Topics covered included emergency preparedness, financial/operations management, dining services, and liability/risk management. We partnered with the HomeCare Association of Louisiana to host a two-day educational conference on November 8-9, 2012 that was attended by 94 assisted living executives and 100 home care executives. The conference featured a vendor trade show representing 45 companies that offered products and services geared for assisted living and home care providers. The LALA Executive Director and a medical entomologist from the Louisiana Department of Public Health traveled around the state in February 2012 to educate providers about bedbug prevention and eradication. 116 assisted living providers attended these meetings held in Shreveport, New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Lafayette.
