What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? We are an all volunteer Emergency Preparedness Organization. We educate city residents/volunteers on C.E.R.T. skills (Community Emergency Response Team), first-aid and preparation for a major disaster, including earthquake, fires and flooding. We provide residents with monthly speakers who address emergency disaster topics. We are a support organization for the city of Canyon Lake. Volunteers participate in the city's Emergency Operations Center drills and setup and staff a medical area for injuries until professional help arrives.

As we stated, we are a very small, all-volunteer emergency disaster preparedness committee. A change to a new Treasurer at the time created a misunderstanding of the requirement to file the 2011 990-e form every year. At that time, it was thought that the 990-e form was required once every three years. When calls were made to the IRS all lines were busy and the wait time was at least 30 minutes long. We realize that this required filing did not occur because our new treasurer was not formally trained in the IRS 990-e requirement. All members do the best they can. The need for annual filing is now fully understood and is being complied with.
