IC-21 organized a fundraising dinner and large public |
presentation featuring Paul Farmer and Ophelia Dalh, |
co-founders of Partners in Health (PIH). The dinner raised |
over $55,000 for PIH and was nearly sold out with over |
140 people in attendance. Directly following the dinner, |
Farmer and Dahl spoke to a crowd of nearly 700 at Walk |
Festival Hall. Prior to Farmer and Dahl's visit, IC-21 hosted |
a community discussion of Tracy Kidder's best seller |
"Mountains Beyond Mountains; The Quest of Dr. Paul Farmer |
a Man Who Would Cure the World". Dr. David Shlim, an expert |
in tropical and travel medicine led a discussion among some 40 |
participants about social justice issues, particularly |
global healthcare and the responsiblity to treat. |

IC 21 assumed the central leadership role in organizing the |
7th annual Teton County Model UN conference (TCMUN), which |
was partially funded by grants from the Community |
Foundation of Jackson Hole and the WY Humanities Council. |
The conference took place at Jackson Hole High School (JHHS) |
on Nov. 13-14, 2012. A record 196 students participated |
from Cody HS, Fort Washakie School, Kelly Walsh HS, JHHS, |
Jackson Hole Community School, Journeys School, Sheridan |
HS, Summit HS, WY Indian HS and Wood River HS in Hailey, |
ID. In order to help prepare student leaders and new |
TCMUN teachers, IC-21 organized a TCMUN training |
workshop in late August. |

Over the summer and fall of 2012, IC-21 helped to guide |
the Students for Sustainability(formerly the Alliance |
Against Climate Change) through the planning, fundraising |
and implementation of Phase 1 of its solar initiative at |
the JHHS sports complex. In mid-October, Creative Energies, |
a local private company, installed a 11.76 kw, 48 panel |
system that will fully offset the stadium's high voltage |
lights and scoreboard for years to come. This project was |
fully funded by the Town of Jackson Specific Purpose Excise |
Tax, which was distributed by the JH Energy Sustainability |
Project (JHESP). Along with the JHESP, IC-21 continues |
to counsel S4S on how to achieve their mission. |

In February 2013, IC-21 sponsored the visit of Daniel Kurtzer |
former US Ambassador to Egypt and Israel. On Feb.6, |
Dr. Kurtzer made a presentation on the Arab-Israeli |
conflict to more than 325 high school students and |
educators from the JHHS, Summit HS and JHSC in the JHHS |
auditorium. The following night at the Center for the |
Arts, Dr. Kurtzer spoke to 375 community members about the |
complex web of issues besetting the Middle East. In |
preparation for Kurtzer's visit, IC-21 and Teton County Library |
co-sponsored a community discussion based on his recent |
publication led by Marianne Kamp, professor of Middle East |
Studies at University of WY. Close to 50 people attended. |

In collaboration with Mark Pommer and the JHHS Key Club, |
IC-21 spent considerable time laying groundwork for a com- |
munity service exchange project between Jackson students |
their peers on the Wind River Indian Reservation. They |
undertook two trips to the Reservation in FY'12 and |
helped facilitate the co-operative planting of two |
large community gardens. |
| Pt III, Line 31 |
IC-21 produced summer and winter newsletters that were |
distributed to some 700 people by email, snail mail and |
at events. |
