What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? SEEDS, INC. ("SEEDS") provides supplemental curriculum development, programs, and training in biology, geography, and environmental science. SEEDS provides youth programs after school and during the summer, and as community service. SEEDS develops programs for the educational institutions of the region. SEEDS has a mission to provide hands-on experiential learning activities and programs to nurture and empower the desire for youth to learn. In addition, SEEDS teaches how sustainable use of our environment will strenghten the economy of Southwest Virginia. SEEDS programs investigate "hands-on" how conservation and environmental science work. On local trips, regional travel, international travel, and in the classroom, SEEDS explores the world around us "first-hand." SEEDS emphasizes the process of learning by doing programs for small groups. SEEDS partners with the Town of Blacksburg to operate a nature and learning discovery center in a town-owned historic building called The Price Hous

28 OUTREACH PROGRAMS: SEEDS also provides supplemental curriculum and outreach programs for students and volunteers.2012 Examples: 90 middle, high school, and community members participated in SEEDS' Freshwater Heritage of Blacksburg - stream education and clean-up programs.There were 28 field trips from area elementary schools and pre-schools to the nature center.SEEDS hosted and funded one summer intern, who is a Biological Sciences major at Virginia Tech.ADDITIONAL OUTREACH ACTIVITIES:Spring 2012 1 Stream clean up with VT volunteers, 35 students Big Event volunteer group coordinator, several projects in town parks coordinated with Blacksburg Parks and Recreation, VT Corps of Cadets, and SEEDS. Participated in Town of Blacksburg Parks and Recreation Arbor Day activities with 10 VT students and 5 Blacksburg middle school students. Co-lead a town/gown/community project called Blacksburg Freshwater Heritage which is implementing the education programs related to the required plan to restore Stroubles Creek, Cedar Run, and Toms Creek. 3 two-hours tours in 2012 with 25 students and community members.

29 NATURE CENTER: In 2009, SEEDS orchestrated a collaboration between VT Biological Sciences, SEEDS, and the Town of Blacksburg to reopen the Nature Center located at the Town of Blacksburgs historic Price House at 107 Wharton Street SE. VT Bio. has contributed its network of Virginia Tech students, Teacher Kits, and specimens to the partnership. In collaboration with parent and teacher volunteers, SEEDS has created year-round programs and exhibits serving the campus community and the surrounding Blacksburg and New River Valley area.Since reopening, over 11,000 visitors have come to the Price House to enjoy its exhibits and programs. The Center offers educational enrichment programs, hands-on learning exhibits, and a place for children and community members to learn about regional wildlife, civics, and environmental stewardship. Its also an ideal location for field trips, small presentations, and workshops to complement the pre-K-college curriculum. Several VT Bio classroom kits are stored at the nature center for an alternate pick-up and drop-off point for people wanting to use the kits in their classrooms or programs. 2012 Blacksburg Nature Center cumulative 3,212 visitors and program participants total 1-Jan-2012 through 31-Dec-2012.1,731 pK-12 youth;506 VT students975 adults (including parents, teachers, and other community members)4 Bird kit loans (Kits that are kept at the nature center2 Mammal kit loans (Kits that are kept at the nature center)1 Tree kit loan (Kits that are kept at the nature center)
