FIRST ACCOMPLISHMENT

YOUTH EDUCATION OUR 2012 YOUTH EDUCATION PROGRAMING CONTINUED ERC'S LEGACY OF EMPOWERING YOUTH THROUGH SCIENCE-BASED KNOWLEDGE. WE ARE HELPING SPARK A LIFE-LONG PASSION FOR SCIENCE AND CREATING THE FUTURE CARETAKERS OF OUR PLANET. SCHOOL PROGRAMS ARE OFFERED DURING SCHOOL HOURS AND AFTER SCHOOL AND INCLUDE THE ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION OUTREACH PROGRAM, GROWING GREAT MINDS AND SCIENCE AFTER SCHOOL. OTHER PROGRAMS INCLUDE ECOCAMP, 4 WEEKS OF OVERNIGHT SUMMER CAMP, EACH WITH A SEPARATE THEME, AND COMMUNITY COLLABORATIVE PROGRAMS OFFERED FOR OTHER ORGANIZATIONS TO SUPPLEMENT THEIR PROGRAMS. YOUTH EDUCATION PROGRAMS ACCOUNT FOR OVER 50% OF THE ERC'S WORK AND REACHED 2000 STUDENTS IN 2012.
SECOND ACCOMPLISHMENT

CLEAN SWEEP & RISE CLEAN SWEEP, THE VALLEY-WIDE CLEAN-UP DAY, BEGAN IN 1996 AND HAS RESULTED IN OVER 20 TONS OF TRASH BEING PICKED UP BY LOCAL CITIZENS. EVERY YEAR HUNDREDS OF VOLUNTEERS TURN OUT TO PICK UP LITTER ALONG CITY STREETS. THE EVENT, WHICH IS FOCUSED IN BELLEVUE, HAILEY, KETCHUM AND SUN VALLEY, IS SPONSORED BY LOCAL BUSINESSES THROUGH DONATIONS AND VOLUNTEER ASSISTANCE. TOTAL PARTICIPANTS: 475
THIRD ACCOMPLISHMENT

PUP THE GOAL OF THE ERC'S DOG WASTE PICK UP PROGRAM, PUP, IS TO MITIGATE THE NEGATIVE ENVIRONMENTAL AND HEALTH EFFECTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE IMPROPER DISPOSAL OF PET WASTE ON OUR LOCAL TRAIL SYSTEMS THROUGH EDUCATION AND ACTION. THIS PROGRAM REQUIRES A DESIGNATED STAFF PERSON TO PICK UP THE DOG WASTE AT THE TRAILHEADS, MARKETING, DOG WASTE PICK-UP BAGS & TRASH BAGS AND BINS. A RECENT SURVEY INDICATED THAT EACH TRAIL THAT IS MANAGED BY THE ERC AVERAGES 9000 TRAIL USER DAYS FROM APRIL - NOVEMBER.
ALL OTHER ACCOMPLISHMENT

OTHER PROGRAMS THE ERC OFFERED MANY DIFFERENT PROGRAMS FOR THE COMMUNITY IN 2012, WITH A TOTAL NUMBER OF 220 PARTICIPANTS, THESE INCLUDED BIRDING, WILDFLOWER, WINTER TRACKING, BEAVER AND STARGAZING NATURE WALKS. COLLABORATION WITH THE HAILEY COMMUNITY CLIMATE CHALLENGE WHICH INCLUDED WORKSHOPS CO- SPONSORED WITH THE BUILDING MATERIAL THRIFT STORE. WE CONDUCTED A DISCUSSION GROUP BASED ON ENVIRONMENTAL TOPICS DEVELOPED BY THE NORTHWEST EARTH INSTITUTE. TOTAL NO. OF PARTICIPANTS: 220
