What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? Utah's Junior Miss Scholarship Program (DYW) has a mission to recognize Utah's outstanding young women, to award educational scholarships to deserving high school seniors and promote the cultural arts and high moral values in youth. Approximately ninty percent of the organizations activities are devoted to the annual selection of Utah's Junior Miss and awarding scholarships to qualifying recipients. Scholarship recipients are selected based on merit and must be enrolled in college or university studies in order to receive the scholarship award. Participants in the program are judged by an independent panel of five judges in the areas of scholastic achievement, interview, talent, physical fitness, and poise. The activity of selecting Utah's Junior Miss and qualifying recipients takes place annually during the month of March.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 Utah Junior Miss Program (Utah DYW) winners/finalists received $26000 in cash scholarships for 2011 (amounts awarded through AJM National Foundation. In addition, many in-kind donations were collected and redistributed to program participants totaling $19,032. In addition to in-kind donations, the Utah program raised $18,905 in operational revenue that was used to fund the 2012 State and At-Large program. Additional unknown funds totaling $3,487 were received by the program along with a tax refund (for taxes paid in error for prior years) of $1097. This combination of income totaling $23,489 was sufficient to cover the program service expense of $23,432.
