What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? The Historical Society of Long Beach (HSLB) collects, preserves and presents local history. Using historical documents, photographs, artifacts, oral and written stories the HSLB creates exhibits and public programs that connect people to their cultural heritage and to the places they live. The HSLB fulfills its mission through many programs. The largest programs in fiscal year 2011/2012 are Historical Collections & Preservation, Research Center and Cemetery Tour. Other programs include oral history programs, membership, exhibitions, first Friday art & culture, open houses, book signings and discusssions.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 Historical Cemetery TourThis unique annual event brings history to life through volunteeer actors who perform the stories of those buried in the city's two oldest cemeteries. Historic events and local stories from Long Beach's diverse past are told today by people as if they were there. The tours typically feature engaging stories of Japanese, Mexican and African American residents.

A phyiscal archive for materials about the Cambodian community and the development of a website are part of the efforts of two local anthropologists.
