Pursuant to its charitable purposes, St. Luke's Quakertown Hospital provides medically necessary healthcare services to all individuals in a non-discriminatory manner regardless of race, color, creed, sex, national origin, religion or ability to pay. Moreover, St. Luke's Quakertown Hospital operates consistently with the following criteria outlined in IRS Revenue Ruling 69-545: 1. St. Luke's Quakertown Hospital provides medically necessary healthcare services to all individuals regardless of ability to pay, including charity care, self-pay, Medicare and Medicaid patients; 2. St. Luke's Quakertown Hospital operates an active emergency room for all persons; which is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year; 3. St. Luke's Quakertown Hospital maintains an open medical staff, with privileges available to all qualified physicians; 4. Control of St. Luke's Quakertown Hospital rests with its board of directors and the board of trustees of St. Luke's Health Network, Inc., d.b.a. St. Luke's University Health Network. Both boards are comprised of a majority of independent civic leaders and other prominent members of the community; and 5. Surplus funds are used to improve the quality of patient care, expand and renovate facilities and advance medical care; programs and activities. The operations of St. Luke's Quakertown Hospital, as shown through the factors outlined above and other information contained herein, clearly demonstrate that the use and control of St. Luke's Quakertown Hospital is for the benefit of the public and that no part of the income or net earnings of the organization inures to the benefit of any private individual nor is any private interest being served other than incidentally. Founded in 1926, St. Luke's Quakertown Hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission and provides patients with access to more than 275 physicians across 40 specialties. These specialty services include: - orthopedics, joint and muscle disorders - neurosurgery - oncology - cardiology - emergency services - general and laparoscopic surgery - pain management - vascular (arteries and veins) services - women's health - wound management center - dialysis and hemodialysis - physical and occupational therapy and rehabilitation - advanced radiology - sleep center St. Luke's Quakertown Hospital is dedicated to providing patients and visitors with quality healthcare delivered with outstanding customer service. Since the acquisition of Quakertown Community Hospital in 1995, St. Luke's has invested more than $71 million in capital improvements to provide high quality healthcare to the region. According to a report published in May 2012 by the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council, St. Luke's Quakertown Hospital provided the highest percent of uncompensated care as a percent of net patient revenue of any of the 23 hospitals in Pennsylvania's Region 8 in FY 2011.
