| Congress to begin the process of amending the Constitution | ||
| to make clear that corporations are not people and money | ||
| is not speech. We continue to work towards passing | ||
| meaningful campaign finance reform and watchdogging the | ||
| role of money in Vermont politics. | ||
| Part III, Line 4d | Consumer Protection - VPIRG serves as a watchdog, | |
| protecting the public interest when corporations attempt | ||
| to put profits over people, and ensure that the policies | ||
| and laws that we do pass to protect the public interest | ||
| are in fact enforced. In 2012, VPIRG launched a major | ||
| consumer protection effort to assert and protect | ||
| consumers' right to know what's in the food they eat. | ||
| Working with partners in the Right to Know GMOs Coalition, | ||
| VPIRG campaigned to require the labeling of foods that | ||
| contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs). VPIRG | ||
| worked with legislative allies to introduce a bill aimed | ||
| at labeling GMOs and VPIRG organizers turned out hundreds | ||
| of activists to a hearing at the State House supporting | ||
| the bill. |
