FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION
THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA, INC. ("THE FOUNDATION") WAS ESTABLISHED AS A NOT-FOR-PROFIT CORPORATION IN 2000. THE FOUNDATION IS AN INDEPENDENT NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION WITH A VOLUNTEER BOARD OF DIRECTORS WHICH PRIMARILY SERVES, FLAGLER, PUTNAM AND VOLUSIA COUNTIES IN EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA. THE FOUNDATION'S PURPOSE IS TO BUILD A PERMANENT RESOURCE OF FUNDS TO HELP MEET COMMUNITY NEEDS TODAY, AND CHANGING NEEDS OF FUTURE GENERATIONS BY ENCOURAGING PHILANTHROPIC LEADERSHIP, PROVIDING FLEXIBLE ENDOWMENT OPPORTUNITIES, AND PRACTICING FINANCIAL STEWARDSHIP OF DONATED FUNDS. OUR MISSION IS TO ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN OUR SERVICE AREA BY INCREASING PERPETUAL LONG-TERM GIVING, BUILDING COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP, AND ASSISTING DONORS IN MAKING THE MOST OF CHARITABLE GIVING BY CONNECTING THEM WITH VARIOUS LOCAL CHARITABLE CAUSES AND PROVIDING PROFESSIONAL GRANT-MAKING SERVICES. WE SUPPORT THE NONPROFIT COMMUNITY AND STRENGTHEN THEM BY BUILDING PHILANTHROPY IN OUR AREA AND CONNECTING DONORS TO THEIR CAUSES.

IN 2012, A NEW INITIATIVE WAS LAUNCHED TITLED, "FEED OUR NEIGHBORS." THIS PROGRAM WAS STARTED AFTER REQUESTS FROM MANY CHURCHES AND AGENCIES WERE RECEIVED TO ASSIST THEM IN STOCKING THEIR FOOD PANTRIES. THE FEED OUR NEIGHBORS INITIATIVE WAS FORMED BY INVITING SOME OF THE LARGER FOOD PANTRIES ALONG WITH SECOND HARVEST TO COME TOGETHER TO ADDRESS THE NEED FOR MORE FOOD RESOURCES. COMMUNITY FOUNDATION PLANNED A FOOD SUMMIT THAT WAS HELD IN AUGUST 2012 AND A WEEK OF GIVING FOOD WAS SPONSORED TO COLLECT FOOD AND MONEY. OUR GOAL IS TO MAKE THE DELIVERY SYSTEM MORE EFFICIENT, HAVE A CLEAR IDEA OF WHERE ALL THE FOOD PANTRIES ARE, AND TO LOOK AT WAYS TO BRING MORE RESOURCES TO THEM. FROM THE WEEK OF GIVING, WE COLLECTED OVER 10,000 AND 4,000 LBS. OF FOOD. WE GRANTED OUT 6,607 TO LOCAL FOOD MINISTRIES THROUGH A GRANT PROCESS AND PLACED 2,500 INTO AN ENDOWED FUND SOT HAT IT WILL BUILD TO ALLOW FOR FUTURE GRANT MAKING.
SECOND ACCOMPLISHMENT DESCRIPTION

RESOURCES BETTER. OVER 3,000 TAX RETURNS WERE COMPLETED AND HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE RECEIVED FINANCIAL EDUCATION INCLUDING CHILDREN IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. OUR NEW INITIATIVE BUILDS RESOURCES TO ELIMINATE HUNGER IN OUR COMMUNITY. FEED OUR NEIGHBORS PROGRAM HELPED ESTABLISH A COALITION THAT IS WORKING TOGETHER TO EXPAND FOOD RESOURCES, HELP BUILD CONNECTIONS WITHIN THE FOOD PANTRY SYSTEM, AND LOOK AT SYSTEMIC WAYS TO INCREASE THE MONEY AND FOOD GOING TO HELP THOSE WHO ARE HUNGRY IN OUR COMMUNITY. WE RAISED 10,000 AND COLLECTED OVER 4,000 LBS OF FOOD WHICH WAS DISBURSED TO LOCAL FOOD MINISTRIES.

EACH NEW STAFF AND VOLUNTEER IS ASKED TO SIGN THIS POLICY THE FIRST DAY THEY EITHER WORK OR VOLUNTEER. VOLUNTEERS PARTICIPATING IN A GRANT COMMITTEE, FINANCE COMMITTEE, FINANCE COMMITTEE OR OTHER COMMITTEES SIGN THE CONFLICT OF INTEREST POLICY EACH YEAR.
