| F990_P03_S00_L03 | Form 990, Part III, Line 3 | During fiscal 2011, the Board of Directors of UWONE voted to end operations. As of July 2, 2011, campaigns managed by UWONE in the past were transitioned to local United Way organizations, including the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley. The transition of these activities to other United Way organizations is designed to foster greater administrative efficiency in the management, monitoring, and oversight relative to the regional campaigns of selected major business organizations. Final distributions of donor contributions occurred after year-end. Management expects this entity will be inactive after these payments are made. The philosophy relative to raising and distribution of funds raised by the organizations to which this work has been transitioned will remain the same. |

| F990_P06_S0B_L12c | Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12c | United Ways of New England, Inc.'s (UWONE) Code of Ethics is intended to guide and advance the ethical conduct of both volunteers and staff in carrying out their UWONE responsibilities. As part of the Code of Ethics, all volunteers and staff must avoid any conflict of interest, or the appearance of a conflict of interest, which could tarnish the reputation of UWONE or undermine the public's trust in UWONE staff and volunteers. To ensure that the best interests of UWONE are served all volunteers and staff upon first being elected, appointed, hired or assigned, discloses in writing, to the best of his or her knowledge, any potential business or agency conflicts of interest that involve the individual, his or her immediate relatives, or any entity with which he or she is associated in a significant leadership or ownership capacity. Thereafter, these disclosures are updated annually, or sooner if changed circumstances in a particular case may warrant. Through a performance agreement, the terms of all potential conflicts of interest are reviewed by United Way of Massachusetts Bay, Inc's (UWMB) management and reported to UWMB's audit committee on an annual basis. The committee develops recommendations as to whether, all factors considered, a given transaction is on fair and reasonable terms and is in the best interest of UWONE and provides these recommendations to UWONE's Board of Directors for approval. |
