THE FRATERNITY OF THE DESERT BIGHORN IS DEDICATED TO THE UTILIZATION, CONSERVATION AND WELFARE OF THE DESERT BIGHORN SHEEP. THE FRATERNITY WORKS WITH VARIOUS GOVERNMENT AGENCIES AND OTHER NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS THAT ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF THE DESERT BIGHORN SHEEP. THE FRATERNITY IS INVOLVED IN PUBLIC EDUCATION, PROVIDING INFORMATION ABOUT THE DESERT BIGHORN SHEEP, INCLUDING THEIR HABITS AND WELFARE. THE FRATERNITY JOINS WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS AND PUBLIC GROUPS TO PROTECT THE WELL BEING AND HABITATS OF THE DESERT BIGHORN SHEEP.
FIRST ACCOMPLISHMENT
FORM 990-EZ, PART III, LINE 28
FRATERNITY OF THE DESERT BIGHORN - 2012 ACTIVITIES MAINTENANCE INSPECTION FLIGHTS OCCURRED ON 4 OCCASSIONS FROM 2/18 TO 3/23. DURING THE FLIGHTS, 90 WATER DEVELOPMENTS WERE INSPECTED IN 21 MOUNTAIN RANGES, WITH 85 PROJECTS LANDED AT FOR DETAILED INSPECTIONS. A TOTAL OF 10 SEEPS, SPRINGS, AND WATER POCKETS WERE ALSO INSPECTED FROM THE AIR. FLIGHT PERSONNEL CONDUCTED MINOR MAINTENANCE AT 63 WATER DEVELOPMENTS. SEVEN PROJECTS REQUIRED MAJOR REPAIR WORK THAT WAS LATER ADDRESSED IN APRIL & MAY 2012. THE MUDDY 4 PROJECT (FIVE RAM, 3/31)- STORAGE CAPACITY WAS INCREASED AT THE PROJECT BY INSTALLING 5 NEW LOW-PROFILE STORAGE TANKS AND A CROSS- LEVELING DRINKING SYSTEM. THE OLD FLOAT-VALVE SYSTEM AND VERTICAL TANKS WERE REMOVED. SEVENTEEN MEMBERS OF THE FRATERNITY CONTRIBUTED APPROXIMATELY 200 HOURS OF TIME TOWARD THE COMPLETION OF THE MUDDY 4 PROJECT. BARE MOUNTAIN EMERGENCY WATER HAUL (4/9-4/12)- FRATERNITY MEMBERS ASSISTED THE NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE IN THE PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN EMERGENCY WATER HAUL TO 2 WATER DEVELOPMENTS ON BARE MOUNTAIN IN NYE COUNTY, NEVADA. APPROXIMATELY 18,000 GALLONS OF WATER WERE DELIVERED TO THE 2 PROJECTS DURING THE EFFORT. THE LAST CHANCE RANGE MAINTENANCE BLITZ (4/21)- SEVERAL MAINTENANCE ISSUES WERE ADDRESSED AT 6 OF THE 7 WATER DEVELOPMENTS IN THE LAST CHANCE RANGE. MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES INCLUDED CAMOUGLAGING OF PROJECT COMPONENTS, CONCRETING OF SELF-LEVELING DRINKERS, REPLACEMENT OF PLUMBING AND REPAIR OF PRECIPITATION COLLECTION APRONS. FORTY-FIVE MEMEBERS OF THE FRATERNITY AND GENERAL PUBLIC ASSISTED ON THE LAST CHANCE PROJECT ACCOUNTING FOR APPROXIMATELY 540 HOURS OF CONTRIBUTED TIME. THE MCCULLOUGH 1 PROJECT (LINDA, 5/5)- A COLLECTION APRON THAT WAS DAMAGED BY A SEVERE WIND EVENT IN EARLY 2012 WAS REBUILT. THE DAMAGED APRON WAS DISASSEMBLED AND REMOVED FROM THE AREA. FIFTEEN VOLUNTEERS CONTRIBUTED APPROXIMATELY 150 HOURS OF TIME TOWARD THE COMPLETION OF THE MCCULLOUGH 1 PROJECT.
