FORM 990, PAGE 6, PART VI, LINE 19
ANYONE AT ANY TIME CAN REVIEW GOVERNING DOCUMENTS UPON REQUEST AT OUR OFFICE. WE PUBLISH A SUMMARY VERSION OF OUR AUDIT IN THE LOCAL NEWPAPER. OUR FINANCIALS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE ONLINE AT GUIDESTAR.COM AND OTHER CLEARINGHOUSE SITES THAT SHARE DATA ON NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS.
ACHIEVED 650,000 GOAL. AN INCREASE OF 13% OVER LAST YEAR. IN 2012, WE SECURED A 110,000 FEDERAL EMERGENCY SOLUTIONS GRANT THAT ADDRESSES HUNGER AND HOMELESSNESS GOALS FOR THE FUTURE. IN 2013 GRANTS WE ARE GOING FROM A BUDGET OF 532,000 TO 625,000 A 17% INCREASE WITH 9 DIFFERENT GRANTS. THE 2011 AUDIT RESULTED IN AN OVERHEAD RATE OF 11.3%. OVERHEAD IS LOW BY SUBSTANTIALLY DUE TO INCREASED GRANT AND CAMPAIGN INCOME. FOR THE 2010 AUDIT INCOME WAS UP 10% AND FOR 2011 UP 21%. MAINTAINED 100% OCCUPANCY RATE FOR HOLSTEN CENTER AND INCREASED RENTAL INCOME BY 24,000. THE HOLSTEN CENTER WILL BE PAID FOR IN 2015. WE ARE CURRENTLY IN DISCUSSIONS WITH THE COUNTY TO NEGOTIATE A NEW LONG TERM LEASE FOR DEPT. OF SOCIAL SERVICES/MEDICAID. CARE COUNCILS ARE IN PLACE FOR 2014-15 FUNDING CYCLE IN THE AREAS OF FINANCIAL STABILITY, HEALTH, EDUCATION AND HUNGER/HOMELESSNESS. ALL AGENCIES WILL BE FUNDED AT 100% OF THEIR 2ND YEAR ALLOCATION FOR 2013. ADDITIONAL SUPPLEMENTAL FUNDING WILL BE AVAILABLE IN 2013 FOR PRIORITY NEEDS AS DEFINED BY EACH CARE COUNCIL. THE IMPLEMENTATION OF CHARITY TRACKER AND 211 WILL HELP WITH QUANTIFYING THE NEED FOR SERVICES AND GAPS AS WE MOVE FORWARD. A COMPREHENSIVE STUDY OF HUNGER AND HOMELESS SUPPORT SERVICES WAS COMPLETED IN 2012. THE BIGGEST GAP IDENTIFIED WAS FOR TRANSITIONAL HOUSING FOR MEN IN OUR COMMUNITY. WE CURRENTLY PARTNER WITH AGENCIES IN COLUMBIA AND SUMTER THAT PROVIDE THIS SERVICE. ANOTHER GAP IN OUR COMMUNITY HAS BEEN FOR ONE AGENCY/GROUP TO COORDINATE CHRISTMAS GIVING. OUR UNITED WAY PLAYED A LEAD ROLE IN SECURING THE SERVICES OF SALVATION ARMY (COLUMBIA) TO HELP FILL THIS GAP. THERE ARE STILL SEVERAL GROUPS WORKING INDEPENDENTLY, BUT HOPEFULLY AS SALVATION ARMY DEVELOPS MORE OF A PRESENCE IN OUR COMMUNITY WE CAN HAVE A COORDINATED EFFORT. AS AN AGENCY OUR UNITED WAY HAS DETERMINED THAT WE ARE THE LEADER IN PROVIDING FOR THE HOMELESS NEEDS OF OUR COMMUNITY. AS SUCH MARIE SERVES ON THE MIDLANDS AREA CONSORTIUM FOR THE HOMELESS BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND LEADS OUR COMMUNITY EFFORTS DURING NATIONAL HUNGER AND HOMELESSNESS AWARENESS WEEK IN NOVEMBER AND SHE IS CHAIRING THE BI ANNUAL HOMELESS COUNT FOR KERSHAW COUNTY. DONNY SERVES ON THE SOUTH CAROLINA COALITION FOR THE HOMELESS BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND CHAIRS THE LOCAL HOMELESS HOUSING COMMITTEE FOR THE KERSHAW COUNTY HOUSING PARTNERSHIP. OUR WEB SITE, WHILE MORE UPDATED THAN IN YEARS PAST STILL NEEDS TO HAVE MORE CURRENT AND CHANGING INFORMATION. STAFF AND BOARD MEMBERS HAVE DONE A GREAT JOB OF BRINGING US UP TO SPEED ON OUR FACEBOOK AND TWITTER COMMUNICATIONS. A SELF ASSESSMENT WAS COMPLETED BY 8 STAFF (100% OF FULL TIME EMPLOYEES) AND 12 BOARD MEMBERS (57% OF BOARD MEMBERS). IN 2013 WE WILL BE DEVELOPING A STRATEGIC PLAN FOR 2014-16 AND THE RESULTS OF THIS ASSESSMENT WILL BE REVIEWED AND DISCUSSED DURING THIS PROCESS. WE SECURED 8 NEW BOARD MEMBERS AND HAVE 2 WHO ARE SERVING SECOND TERMS IN LEADERSHIP ROLES.
