JCAHO AND THE COMMISSION ON ACCREDITATION OF REHABILITATION FACILITIES.CARF THE WINIFRED MASTERSON BURKE REHABILITATION HOSPITAL OFFERS TWO SEPARATE SERVICES, BOTH BASED ON THE PHILOSOPHY OF HELPING THE INDIVIDUAL ATTAIN MAXIMUM PHYSICAL PSYCHOLOGICAL, SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC FUNCTIONING. THE REHABILITATION SERVICE PROVIDES IN-PATIENT MEDICAL EVALUATION WITH TREATMENT FOR ORTHOPEDIC AND NEUROLOGICAL DISABILITIES. THE CENTRALIZED HOSPITAL UNIT WAS CONSTRUCTED AND PLACED INTO OPERATION DURING OCTOBER, 1972. THIS FACILITY INCLUDES ALL INPATIENT AND OUTPATIENT SERVICES, EXCEPT FOR THE SPEECH AND AUDIOLOGY PROGRAM. ALL PATIENT ROOMS WERE RENOVATED AND MODERNIZED BETWEEN 2007 AND 2008.
Form 990 PART III, SECTION 1, LINE CONTINUED....THE OUTPATIENT SERVICES INCLUDE THE REHABILITATION CLINIC, CHILDRENS REHABILITATION SERVICES CLINIC, SPEECH AUDIOLOGY CLINIC AND A REGIONAL MEDICAL PROGRAM. THE CENTER ALSO OPERATES A NUTRITIONAL AND METABOLIC RESEARCH DIVISION. THE BURKE REHABILITATION HOSPITAL IS LOCATED IN THE CITY OF WHITE PLAINS, AND IS UTILIZED BY PATIENTS FROM NEW YORK, NEW JERSEY AND CONNECTICUT. BURKE IS A 150 BED FACILITY, 120 REHABILITATION BEDS AND 30 ACUTE BEDS THE REHABILITATION CENTER, OPENED IN 1915, HAS CONTINUED TO CARRY OUT ITS FUNCTION OF CHARGING ALL PATIENTS FOR SERVICES BASED UPON THEIR ABILITY TO PAY OR THE CIRCUMSTANCE WHICH REQUIRED THE SERVICES, DEPENDING UPON THE LENGTH OF STAY USUALLY 12 TO 18 DAYS AS DETERMINED BY THE MEDICAL DIRECTOR. IN ADDITION, MANY PATIENTS ARE COVERED BY THE PROVISIONS OF MEDICARE OR MEDICAID PROGRAMS. THE RATES PAID BY THESE PROGRAMS ARE ESTABLISHED BY GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES.
