THE STEPHENVILLE HISTORICAL HOUSE MUSEUM COLLECTS, PRESERVES, AND EXHIBITS ARTIFACTS, ARCHIVAL MATERIALS, AND PHOTOGRAPHS THAT ILLUSTRATE THE EARLY HISTORY AND CONTINUING DEVELOPMENT OF THE CROSS TIMBERS AREA. THE MUSEUM PROVIDES A UNIQUE ENVIRONMENT FOR THE EDUCATION OF THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE, A SPECIAL PLACE FOR ENGAGING VISITORS IN AN ONGOING DIALOGUE ABOUT THE PAST. THE MUSEUM LIMITS ITS ACQUISITIONS TO ITEMS THAT IT CAN ADEQUATELY PRESERVE AND EXHIBIT AND SUCH ITEMS DEEMED WORTHY BY THE MUSEUM.
FIRST ACCOMPLISHMENT
FORM 990-EZ, PART III, LINE 28
APPROXIMATELY 6,500 VISITORS CAME TO THE MUSEUM GROUNDS FOR TOURS, WEDDINGS AND RECEPTIONS, AND NUMEROUS PHOTO SHOOTS FOR BOTH PRIVATE AND COMMERCIAL SHOOTS. VISITORS ARE NOT ONLY FROM LOCAL BUT ALSO FROM CITIES FROM AROUND THE STATE OF TEXAS, AS WELL AS 24 ADDITIONAL STATES AND 6 FOREIGN COUNTRIES. OUR LOCAL SCHOOL GROUPS ARE GROWING AS MORE AND MORE HEAR ABOUT THE FUN THE OTHER GROUPS HAVE HAD. SOME OF OUR SCHOOL GROUPS ARE IN THEIR 3RD YEAR OF MAKING THE MUSEUM THEIR FINAL FIELD TRIP FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR. SEVERAL LOCAL NON-PROFIT AGENCIES HAVE ALSO ADDED THE MUSEUM TOURS TO THEIR SUMMER CAMP PROGRAMS. TARLETON STATE UNIVERSITY HAS STARTED A TRADITION BY THE HISTORY DEPARTMENT OF ASSIGNING THEIR CLASSES TO TOUR THE MUSEUM AND THEN WRITE ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCES. NUMEROUS VOLUNTEERS HAVE COME IN TO HELP THE ARCHIVES DEPARTMENT IN DIGITIZING ALL OF OUR MANY ARTICLES AND ARTIFACTS AND IF YOU WILL CALL IT, "BRINGING THE MUSEUM INTO THE 21ST CENTURY". COMMUNITY GROUPS SUCH AS THE STEPHENVILLE STUDY CLUB, TWENTIETH CENTURY CLUB, AND DAUGHTERS OF THE REPUBLIC OF TEXAS, ALSO DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION MET HERE IN OUR SCHOOL HOUSE MEETING ROOM. THE MUSEUM CONDUCTS SEVERAL EDUCATIONAL AND HISTORICAL PROJECTS WITH THE BOY AND GIRL SCOUTS. BOTH THE NATIVE HEIRLOOM AND PLANT FAIR AND BY GONE DAYS ON THE BOSQUE BROUGHT NEARLY HALF THAT TOTAL NUMBER OF VISITORS TO THE MUSEUM GROUNDS. CAMP PIONEER HAD 18 CAMPERS AGAIN THIS YEAR AND WITH THE LAST DAY FINALE ENDING WITH ALL THE CAMPERS, VOLUNTEERS, AND FAMILIES OF THE CAMPERS NOT FORGETTING TO MENTION THE ENTERTAINMENT, WHICH WILL BE ADDITIONAL HUNDRED PLUS VISITORS OF THAT TOTAL LISTED ABOVE. AN ANNUAL VALENTINE MUSICAL IS HELD IN THE CHAPEL EACH YEAR, AND IT KEEPS GROWING IN SIZE. ONE LOCAL BUSINESS HELD LEARNING LUNCHEONS DURING THIS LAST YEAR AGAIN. THE SECOND ANNUAL MOTORCYCLE RIDE BROUGHT ANOTHER 45 TO THE GROUNDS. NUMEROUS FAMILY REUNIONS HAVE HAD TOURS HERE TO SEE THEIR HEIRLOOMS. LOCAL CHURCH GROUPS, EVEN GROUPS AS FAR AWAY AS GRANBURY, HAVE BOOKED IN TOURS AND ALSO HELD PICNICS ON THE GROUNDS. THERE WERE THREE EGG HUNTS SCHEDULED IN ONE DAY FOR THE LITTLE ONES BY CHURCH GROUPS AND DAY CARE FACILITIES. BESIDES WEDDINGS, RECEPTIONS AND REUNIONS, OUR GROUNDS HAVE BECOME A MUST SEE PLACE BY SEVERAL OF THE LOCAL NURSING HOMES FOR THEIR OUTINGS BY THE ACTIVITY DIRECTORS. DURING THIS TIME THEY ARE ENTERTAINED OUT UNDER THE SHADE TREES BY SUCH DISTINGUISHED VISITORS AS JOHN TARLETON, SILAS BUCK AND OLD MAN F. M. SNOW HAVE BEEN KNOW TO "DROP" BY FOR A VISIT. THIS YEAR THE MUSEUM HAS HAD TWO MEMORIAL SERVICES IN THE CHAPEL ON THE BOSQUE WITH A "FULL HOUSE" FOR BOTH.
