FIRST ACCOMPLISHMENT DESCRIPTION
FORM 990, PAGE 2, PART III, LINE 4A
THE HISTORIC CUTLER MEMORIAL BUILDING, HOME TO ONE OF THE THEATRE'S PARTNERS, THE JAFFREY WOMAN'S CLUB. THE THEATRE'S MOVIE SERIES HAS BROUGHT OVER 7,700 PATRONS TO DOWNTOWN JAFFREY SOLELY FOR PROGRAMS PRESENTED BY THE PARK THEATRE SINCE 2007. FOR THE FIFTH YEAR IN A ROW, THE THEATRE PARTICIPATED IN THE TOWN'S ANNUAL COMMUNITY CELEBRATION, RIVERFEST, WHICH DRAWS THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE INTO THE DOWNTOWN AREA. DURING RIVERFEST, TRUSTEES CONDUCTED TOURS OF THE FACILITY WITH LECTURES ON HISTORY OF THE BUILDING. THEATER TRUSTEES ALSO HAVE COLLABORATED WITH PERFORMING ARTISTS TO MOUNT THEATRICAL PROGRAMS AND TO PROMOTE THOSE GROUPS IN MARKETING PIECES, PRESS RELEASES AND THE ANNUAL REPORT. IN RETURN, THE PERFORMING PARTNERS HAVE SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT THE PARK THEATER TO THEIR PATRONS AND COLLEAGUES. THIS PARTNERSHIP OUTREACH HAS BROUGHT ANOTHER 7,000 PEOPLE INTO DOWNTOWN JAFFREY FOR PROGRAMS OF ART, CULTURE AND ENTERTAINMENT. IN THE AUTUMN, THE PARK THEATRE OFFERED ITS FAMILY FILM SERIES - SATURDAYS AT THE CINEMA - DURING OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER CONCLUDING WITH THE ANNUAL SALUTE TO VETERANS WITH "ACTION IN THE NORTH ATLANTIC", THE ACTION STORY DEPICTING THE UNITED STATES MERCHANT MARINE AND RECOGNITION OF THE SERVICE OF AREA VETERANS. THE OCTOBER FILM WAS ALFRED HITCHCOCK'S REBECCA, SHOWN NEAR THE HALLOWEEN HOLIDAY TIME. THE PARK THEATRE HELD ITS ANNUAL MEETING IN DECEMBER TO REPORT TO THE COMMUNITY AND DISTRIBUTE ITS ANNUAL REPORT WHICH CONTAINS, AMONG OTHER ITEMS, THE CORPORATION'S 990. AS IS THE CUSTOM, THE ANNUAL MEETING INCLUDED WITH PRESENTATIONS ABOUT THE PROJECT AND PERFORMANCES BY MEMBERS OF THE LOCAL COMMUNITY. LOCAL MUSICIAN, WRITER AND COMEDIAN KEN SHELDON, CREATOR OF THE CHARACTER FRED MARPLE AND FOUNDER OF THE ENORMOUSLY POPULAR VARIETY ACT FROST HEAVES, ENTERTAINED OVER 100 ATTENDEES. LOUISE CURRAN AND BERNIE WATSON, HUSBAND AND WIFE PIANISTS FROM JAFFREY, PERFORMED HOLIDAY MUSIC FOR THE STANDING-ROOM-ONLY CROWD. THE PRIMARY FOCUS OF THE YEAR WAS DEVOTED TO WORKING WITH THE TOWN'S PLANNING BOARD TO INSTITUTE NECESSARY MODIFICATIONS TO THE BUILDING AND SITE PLANS TO MEET LOCAL AND STATE ORDINANCES. TRUSTEES ALSO COMMISSIONED A SERIES OF ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES OF THE INTERIOR OF THE BUILDING AND SURROUNDING PROPERTY. IN EARLY FEBRUARY THE PROJECT ARCHITECT COMPLETED THE FINAL SCHEMATIC DRAWINGS AND RENDERING FOR USE WITH THE GENERAL PUBLIC. TRUSTEES SELECTED A LOCAL BUILDER TO UNDERTAKE CONSTRUCTION, AND BEGAN WORK WITH THE MONADNOCK ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION, USDA-RURAL DEVELOPMENT AND THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT FINANCE AUTHORITY TO IDENTIFY INSTITUTIONAL FUNDING FOR CONSTRUCTION. IN MARCH, THE PROJECT RECEIVED THE NECESSARY WAIVERS FROM THE TOWN'S ZONING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT TO CONSTRUCT A NON-CONFORMING BUILDING ON A NON-CONFORMING LOT. IN JUNE THE TOWN'S PLANNING BOARD APPROVED THE BUILDING'S SITE PLAN, AND SOUTHWEST REGION PLANNING COMMISSION REMOVED THE BURIED OIL TANK NEXT TO THE BUILDING. NO CONTAMINATION OF THE SITE WAS NOTED. THE YEAR ENDED WITH A CAMPAIGN TO RAISE 100,000 TO QUALIFY FOR A 200,000 MATCH FROM NH'S COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT FINANCE AUTHORITY FOR THE EARLY DISBURSEMENT OF TAX CREDITS RAISED BY THE THEATRE DURING 2010 - 2011. THOSE FUNDS ARE TO BE USED TO COMPLETE THE ENVIRONMENTAL CLEAN-UP, DEMOLISH THE STRUCTURE, AND SECURE AND IMPROVE THE SITE FOR CONSTRUCTION. THE VISION FOR THE PARK THEATRE IS THAT IT WILL BE "A REGIONAL CENTER FOR THE ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT, A MEETING PLACE FOR THE COMMUNITY AND A DYNAMIC FORCE IN THE REGION'S VITALITY AND QUALITY OF LIFE".
