SREB MADE SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS ON EACH SECTION OF THIS GRANT. THE "BENCHMARKING" COMPONENT CONDUCTED CONPREHENSIVE DOCUMENT ANALYSES AND EXTENSIVE INTERVIEWS WITH OVER 200 INDIVIDUALS ACROSS 15 STATES AND MADE CONSIDERABLE PROGRESS ON DATA ANALYSIS. MULTIPLE NEW SITES BEGAN IMPLEMENTING LDC; WITH MDC, SEVERAL STATE TRAINERS WORKED WITH TEACHER FACILITATORS ACROSS MULTIPLE SITES, WITH IMPLEMENTATION OF FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT LESSONS AND STRATEGIES OF ASSESSMENT FOR LEARNING. NINETY-TWO NEW SCHOOLS COMMITTED TO PARTICIPATE IN COHORT 2 WITH LDC AND MDC FOR THE 2013-2014 SCHOOL YEAR. THE "TRANSITIONAL COURSES" COMPONENT GREW TO 14 STATES; ALL 14 MODULES OF THE MATHEMATICS AND LITERACY COURSES WERE FIELD TESTED WITH TEACHERS AND PRINCIPALS, AND REVISIONS INITIATED. THE "CTE" INITIATIVE SHIFTED TO KENTUCKY, WHERE SREB CONDUCTED AN INTRODUCTORY ADVANCE MANUFACTURING MEETING IN FRANKFORT; THE GOAL IS TO DEVELOP A CURRICULUM OF FOUR COURSES IN THE ADVANCED MANUFACTURING SECTOR. "EDUCATOR EFFECTIVENESS" ACTIVITIES INCLUDED VISITS TO STATES ACROSS THE REGION TO LEARN ABOUT THEIR TEACHER EFFECTIVENESS AGENDAS AND CHALLENGES, MEET WITH TEACHER EFFECTIVENESS LEADERS AND ORGANIZATIONS ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND CONSULT WITH LEGISLATORS IN SREB STATES UPON REQUEST. THE "COLLEGE COMPLETION" COMPONENT LAUNCHED AN ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS SERIES THAT PROVIDES POLICY PAPERS ON COMPLETION-RELATED TOPICS AND CONVENED WORKING GROUPS OF LEGISLATORS AND OTHERS ON ISSUES THAT IMPACT COLLEGE COMPLETION. IN ADDITION, SREB LAUNCHED A COMMUNITY COLLEGE COMMISSION FOCUSED ON BUILDING MORE EFFECTIVE PATHWAYS IN ORDER TO INCREASE COLLEGE COMPLETION. FINALLY, SREB WORKED WITH LEGISLATORS IN MARYLAND, WEST VIRGINIA, AND TEXAS ON MAJOR COLLEGE READINESS LEGISLATION. BOTH MARYLAND AND WEST VIRGINIA PASSED LEGISLATION ON THIS TOPIC.

FOR 20 YEARS SREB HAS PARTICIPATED IN OR HOSTED THE COMPACT FOR FACULTY DIVERSITY INSTITUTE ON TEACHING AND MENTORING. THIS ANNUAL MEETING IS NOW RECOGNIZED AS THE NATION'S LARGEST GATHERING OF MINORITY PH.D. SCHOLARS IN THE NATION. THE POWERFUL ANNUAL CONFERENCE UNITES SCHOLARS, MENTORS AND FACULTY MEMBERS FROM OVER 40 STATES AND MORE THAN 200 INSTITUTIONS FOR FOUR DAYS OF CONNECTING, TEACHING, MENTORING, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL DEVELOPMENT, AND CREATING PROFESSIONAL OPPORTUNITIES. PARTICIPANTS ATTEND MORE THAN 60 INTENSIVE CONCURRENT AND PLENARY SESSIONS AIMED AT PREPARING AND MOTIVATING THEM TO EARN THEIR DOCTORAL DEGREES AND TO BECOME SUCCESSFUL FACULTY MEMBERS AND RESEARCHERS. THE INSTITUTE IS ONE OF THE FEW VENUES WHERE COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY FACULTY/STAFF CAN INTERACT WITH A LARGE NUMBER OF MINORITY PH.D. SCHOLARS WHO REPRESENT NEARLY 100 SPECIFIC FIELDS OF STUDY AND HAVE AN INTEREST IN BECOMING FACULTY MEMBERS. RECRUITERS FROM MORE THAN 480 INSTITUTIONS THROUGHTOUT THE COUNTRY HAVE COME TO THE INSTITUTE IN ITS FIRST TWO DECADES. THE INSTITUTE HAS CONTINUED TO FOCUS ON ITS MISSION TO EQUIP THE MORE THAN 13, 000 PARTICIPANTS WHO ATTENDED THE CONFERENCE TO EARN A PHD., ENTER THE ACADEMY, IMPROVE THE ACADEMIC ENVIRONMENT, AND BECOME SUCCESSFUL LEADERS IN AND OUT OF THE CLASSROOM.

THE 27TH ANNUAL HSTW STAFF DEVELOPMENT WAS HELD IN CHARLOTTE, NC ON JULY 16-19, 2013 WITH MORE THAN 4,000 ATTENDEES. THE CONFERENCE, WITH A THEME OF "GRADUATING STUDENTS COLLEGE-AND-CAREER-READY," FEATURED 600 SESSIONS LED BY INVITED GUEST SPEAKERS, TEACHERS AND SCHOOL LEADERS, WHO ARE INVOLVED IN THE EFFORTS TO PREPARE STUDENTS TO BE READY FOR COLLEGE, CAREERS, OR BOTH.

IN ADDITION, SREB LAUNCHED A COMMUNITY COLLEGE COMMISSION FOCUSED ON BUILDING MORE EFFECTIVE PATHWAYS IN ORDER TO INCREASE COLLEGE COMPLETION. FINALLY, SREB WORKED WITH LEGISLATORS IN MARYLAND, WEST VIRGINIA, AND TEXAS ON MAJOR COLLEGE READINESS LEGISLATION. BOTH MARYLAND AND WEST VIRGINIA PASSED LEGISLATION ON THIS TOPIC.
