UWAC PROVIDES THE SITE, RECEPTION AND SCHEDULING SERVICES, EQUIPMENT AND PROMOTION/MARKETING OF THE PROGRAM. 366 RETURNS WERE PREPARED WITH AN ESTIMATED COST SAVINGS OF 57,000 TO ADDISON COUNTY HOUSEHOLDS; 32 FAMILIES WERE ASSISTED WITH THE FREE SELF-PREPARED TAX PROGRAM. B)LLL PARTNERING WITH EVERYBODY WINS AND RSVP AND IN RESPONSE TO UNITED WAY WORLDWIDE'S CALL TO ACTION FOR ONE MILLION EDUCATION VOLUNTEERS TO EXPAND EARLY READING MENTORING TO ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS. THE GOAL IS TO HAVE PROGRAMS IN 4 LOCAL SCHOOLS BY 2014. PRIORITY IS GIVEN TO SCHOOLS THAT HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED WITH HIGHER THAN AVERAGE ECONOMIC ACHIEVEMENT GAPS. WE STARTED PROGRAMS IN SHOREHAM AND SALISBURY THIS YEAR WITH 36 MENTORING PAIRS. C)HIL PARTNERS WITH SEVERAL NON-PROFIT, FOR PROFIT AND GOVERNMENT AGENCIES WHO SERVE SENIORS IN OUR COMMUNITY. UWAC FACILITATES BI-MONTHLY SENIOR NETWORK OF CARE MEETINGS THAT FOCUSES ON SHARED LEARNING, NETWORKING, AND COLLECTIVE RESPONSE TO THE NEEDS OF THE AGING POPULATION OF THE COUNTY. WITH OUR NATIONAL PARTNER, FAMILYWIZE COMMUNITY SERVICE, WE HAVE DISTRIBUTED FREE PRESCRIPTION DISCOUNT CARDS. ADDISON COUNTY RESIDENTS HAD 1056 CLAIMS WITH 31,195 OF SAVINGS IN 2012. D)IN PARTNERSHIP WITH FELLOW UNITED WAY OF VERMONT MEMBERS, WE CO-MANAGED AND FINANCIALLY SUPPORTED OUR SHARED PROGRAM: VT 2-1-1. THIS IS AN INFORMATION AND REFERRAL SERVICE THAT LINKS PEOPLE TO THE SERVICES THEY OR A FAMILY MEMBER NEEDS IN THE COMMUNITY. 2)WE ALSO PARTICIPATE IN VARIOUS COMMUNITY, STATE AND NATIONAL EFFORTS TO BRING PEOPLE, EXPERTISE, RESOURCES AND IDEAS TOGETHER IN ORDER TO STRENGTHEN THE COMMUNITY. THE EFFORTS HELP IDENTIFY COMMUNITY NEEDS AND TRENDS THROUGH NEEDS ASSESSMENTS AND DATA GATHERING. EXAMPLES INCLUDE: COLLABORATION WITH RSVP TO SUPPORT VOLUNTEER CONNECTION, NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK, DAYS OF CARING & VOLUNTEER COORDINATORS NETWORK. THE VOLUNTEER CENTER: ENROLLED 344 VOLUNTEERS, 81 NEW ENROLLEES, MADE 81 REFERRALS, AND HAD 34 SUCCESSFUL PLACEMENTS. WE ESTIMATE THE VOLUNTEERS WORKED 38,123 HOURS FOR THE YEAR AT 135 LOCATIONS. THIS TRANSLATES TO 789,527 OF DONATED LABOR. DURING THE DAYS OF CARING, 700 VOLUNTEERS PROVIDED APPROXIMATELY 4,200 HOURS OF SERVICE. THIS TRANSLATES TO ALMOST 88,240 OF DONATED LABOR TO NON-PROFITS THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY.
