Explanation
Form 990, Part III, Line 4d: Other Program Services Description
OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATIONOn July 4th, more than 300 adults and children visited the Upper Swan Valley Historical Society, Inc.'s annual history display and historical exhibits at the Swan Valley Community Hall (which is the central meeting place for many of the community functions), and at the Museum and Heritage Site. In addition to the popular Historical Society photo and memorabilia exhibits, the organization served huckleberry ice cream, a Fourth of July tradition. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: ORAL HISTORY PROJECTOver the past decade, The Upper Swan Valley Oral History Project has recorded over 60 interviews with the early residents, along with collecting photographs, maps, documents, and other memorabilia. In 2011, the Upper Swan Valley Historical Society, Inc. produced a book, "Montana, Voices of the Swan", containing 65 historical summaries of recorded interviews with earlier settlers, their descendants, or others who knew the Swan Valley in former years. Their "voices" tell the story of lives of mingled hardship and joy in earlier days in the Swan Valley of Montana. The objective is to preserve the history and to make it available for present and future generations. In June, 2013, a tour of three historic lodges, all dating from the 1910s through the 1930s, was sponsored by the Upper Swan Valley Historical Society, Inc. and attended by 85 people. The tour featured speakers who were former guests of the lodges, workers, and descendants of former owners sharing their personal stories of events that occurred. A video project using techniques of oral storytelling, photographic documentation, and historical research is planned to capture the history of the historic lodges before it is lost. During 2013, the Upper Swan Valley Historical Society, Inc. produced "As Time Goes By: A Chronology of the Swan Valley" that includes information about historical events, such as exploration, homesteading, logging, and development, occurring from 1854 through 2013, and provides an easy-to-use reference about the natural, cultural, and historical aspects of the Swan Valley. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: SPRING FLING PROGRAMOn April 20, 2013, the organization sponsored a ladies' and girls' luncheon and program in celebration of spring. Among the approximately 58 attendees were speakers and artists who shared their knowledge about the history of birds in the Swan Valley with presentations and demonstrations on bird behavior, bird calls, the history of wood carving, and photography. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 7: OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 8: DAVID WALBURN PROGRAM, "LIFE UNDER THE BIG SKY"On September 22,2013, 67 adults and children attended a program sponsored by the Upper Swan Valley Historical Society, Inc. and presented by David Walburn, a Glacier Park performer. Mr. Walburn shared Montana music and scenic imagery of Montana and the Swan Valley. His historical storytelling depicted the spirit and essence of the West and included historical stories and songs about the American Indian, the Lewis and Clark expedition, the Northern Pacific Railroad, artist Charlie Russell, and the development of Glacier National Park.

E-mailing a final version (less redacted portions of Schedule B) to each voting member of the Board of Directors will qualify as providing an electronic copy.Question 11a was answered "No" because the organization, at the request of a donor, redacted the name and address of that donor from the Form 990, Schedule B.In addition, before filing, the complete Form 990/990-EZ (including Schedule B details) will be reviewed for accuracy and completeness and approved by the President and the Treasurer.
