Advocacy In February 2013 IDA filed comments with the U.S. Register of Copyrights on the orphan works problem in copyright law. In April 2013, at the invitation of the Stanford Fair Use Project, IDA signed on to an amicus brief in the case of Bouchat v. NFL Properties, which was on appeal in the Fourth Circuit. The case would have significantly limited the right to use copyrighted material to document, depict and discuss historic events. In June IDA joined a petition asking the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit to rehear the 2012 case Ryan Hart v. Electronic Arts, Inc., which involved the limits of publicity rights. In August IDA, on behalf of its membership, urged for intervention by the Canadian government in the arrest and incarceraion of veteran documentary filmmaker John Greyson in Cairo.
