Explanation:
The tax return for Spark Ministry was not filed in a timely manner for several reasons: 1. I went out of town unexpectedly and missed the Aug 15 Extension filing deadline. I filed the next week but it was denied. 2. I keep the books for the nonprofit and file the tax return each year during my off hours. When I sat down to file the return, I realized that we would be required to file a 990 for the first time, instead of the 990EZ, which would require much more time. During the last 6 weeks, we planned, prepared and accomplished our biggest mission trip to date, involving 150 women. This trip and some unexpected life events, left me insufficient time to file the return. This was my first time to file a 990, so it required a lot of reading and following instructions. This is the first time that I have missed a deadline in six years, so I am asking for leniency concerning the penalties due. Thank you for your consideration.
