What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? To promote the craft of writing and innovation in lifestyle, arts and entertainment journalism.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 SFJ conducts an annual Excellence in Feature Writing contest in which it seeks to identify and recognize examples of the best feature stories and sections (both print and online) in the country. Cash prizes are awarded to winners and the winning entries are compiled on the SFJ website as a resource for journalists.SFJ organizes an annual conference that offers technical and leadership training to journalists. The conference takes place in different parts of the country and is a professional development opportunity for journalists.SFJ offers diversity fellowships to journalists of color to encourage them to attend SFJ's annual conference and benefit from the training and networking opportunities that it offers.SFJ provides year-round resources such as monthly newsletters to members.
