Explanation
990 PAGE 2 PART III LINE 4
With the animal shelters filled with adoptable pets and no room, Watermelon decided to work with high kill shelters throughout the state and Arizona to help with the problem. We have been providing assistance to Mesilla Valley, Aztec and Valencia County New Mexico this past year. Hundreds of animals from these shelters were transferred to us and found loving homes. It is a very successful partnership and we rescued over 500 dogs and cats whose futures were uncertain. We are particularly proud of our relationship with the City Of Albuquerque from whom we took 1100 dogs and 425 cats and most have forever loving homes. We are working with the City on a new adoption center to open in November of 2014. Our efforts will expand to Phoenix and Tucson in 2014. Our program for Youth at risk is thriving and many of the court appointed volunteers have completed their hours at the ranch and many continue to come back and volunteer their time. Several of the people have even been hired from this wonderful program. Our Special Needs Adults and children's programs have been expanded and while we had one group that came out once a week and have done for the last 10 years, we now have groups Monday through Friday who come and brush the cats and play with the dogs. Our goal is to build an enclosed pavilion so these groups can come year round as it is gives them such joy to be around the animals and the animals benefit by their loving care.........
