UAAC RESCUED 1,343 TOTAL PETS IN 2013, AND PLACED 1,259 ANIMALS IN FOREVER HOMES. AND FOR EVERY RESCUE EFFECTED BY UTAH ANIMAL ADOPTION CENTER ANOTHER SPACE OPENS TO SAVE AN ORPHANED ANIMAL, MANY OF WHOM WOULD OTHERWISE BE DESTINED FOR EUTHANASIA. SENIOR FOR A SENIOR PROGRAM BECAUSE SO MANY FAMILIES PREFER KITTENS TO OLDER CATS, UTAH ANIMAL ADOPTION CENTER STARTED THE SENIOR FOR A SENIOR PROGRAM IN 2011, PARTNERING SENIOR CITIZENS WITH OUR SENIOR CATS, AGES 7 YEARS AND UP, WITH ALL FEES WAIVED. AS A RESULT, SENIOR CAT ADOPTION RATES INCREASED, AND WE ARE SUCCESSFULLY PAIRING PERFECT SENIOR COMPANIONS IN OUR COMMUNITY. THANKS TO A CONTINUING PRODUCT DONATION FROM PETCO WE ALSO PROVIDE A WELCOME HOME PACKAGE WITH EVERY SENIOR FOR A SENIOR ADOPTION THAT INCLUDES A LITTER BOX, SCOOP AND BAG OF LITTER, A COLLAR, A BED, AND A BAG OF FOOD. HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS WE EXPANDED OUR SENIOR FOR A SENIOR PROGRAM ALLOWING ALL ADOPTIVE FAMILIES AN OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE HOME A SENIOR OR SPECIAL NEEDS CAT, AGED 7 YEARS OR OLDER, WITHOUT A FEE. THE HOLIDAY WELCOME HOME PACKAGE FOR EACH ADOPTION INCLUDED A LITTER BOX, SCOOP AND BAG OF LITTER, A CAT BED, AND FOOD AND WATER DISHES. WE WERE DELIGHTED TO PLACE 27 OF OUR SENIOR AND SPECIAL NEEDS CATS INTO LOVING FOREVER HOMES DURING THE MONTH OF DECEMBER. PETS FOR PATRIOTS IN 2013, UTAH ANIMAL ADOPTION CENTER STRENGTHENED OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NEW YORK-BASED NON-PROFIT, PETS FOR PATRIOTS. AS A MEMBER SHELTER UTAH ANIMAL ADOPTION CENTER IS ONE OF ONLY TWO FACILITIES IN THE STATE OFFERING LOW COST ADOPTION OPPORTUNITIES FOR VETERANS AND ACTIVE SERVICE MEMBERS. BY ADOPTING THROUGH US AND THE PETS FOR PATRIOTS PROGRAM, MEMBERS NOT ONLY OBTAIN A FOREVER FRIEND, BUT ARE ALSO SUPPORTED FOR THE LIFE OF THEIR PET WITH DISCOUNTED VET CARE AND GIFT CARDS REDEEMABLE FOR PET FOOD AND SUPPLIES. VOLUNTEER TRACKING EXCLUDES THE GENEROUS SUPPORT OF OUR MANY FOSTER FAMILIES CARING FOR SPECIAL NEEDS PETS AND YOUNG PUPPIES AND KITTENS. THEY DONATE COUNTLESS HOURS AND OPEN THEIR HEARTS AND HOMES CARING FOR SO MANY ANIMALS IN NEED. ANIMAL MEDICAL AND HEALTH FUND PROGRAM EVERY ANIMAL RESCUED OR ACCEPTED BY UTAH ANIMAL ADOPTION CENTER RECEIVES A MEDICAL EVALUATION BY A VETERINARIAN. EVERY ANIMAL IS VACCINATED, MICRO- CHIPPED, AND SPAYED OR NEUTERED. ANY ADDITIONAL MEDICAL NEEDS ARE ALSO SEEN TO INCLUDING DENTAL CARE. DURING 2013, 816 SPAY/NEUTER PROCEDURES WERE PERFORMED. ASSUMING AN AVERAGE LITTER SIZE OF FOUR FOR AN UNALTERED DOG OR CAT AT TWO LITTERS PER YEAR, MORE THAN 6,500 DOGS AND CATS PER YEAR WERE PREVENTED FROM ENTERING THE SHELTER SYSTEM AND RISKING EUTHANASIA. EVERY ANIMAL WELCOMED BY UTAH ANIMAL ADOPTION CENTER IS MICRO-CHIPPED TO OUR ORGANIZATION. WE WANT OUR ANIMALS TO LIVE IN HAPPY FOREVER HOMES FOR THE REMAINDER OF THEIR NATURAL LIVES. SHOULD THEY EVER TURN UP IN A SHELTER UTAH ANIMAL ADOPTION CENTER IS NOTIFIED AND WE RETRIEVE THE ANIMAL; IF THE ADOPTIVE FAMILY CANNOT CONTINUE TO CARE FOR IT WE WILL FIND A NEW FOREVER HOME FOR THAT ANIMAL, ANYTIME DURING THE LIFE OF THE DOG OR CAT. SUMMARY UTAH ANIMAL ADOPTION CENTER REMAINS COMMITTED TO OUR MISSION AND TO WORKING WITH THE MANY OTHER UTAH ORGANIZATIONS TO ELIMINATE THE EUTHANASIA OF HEALTHY, ADOPTABLE PETS.
