WIT Academy was organized a few years ago, but did not officially begin operations until the fiscal year ended April 30, 2014 and was unable to find an accountant to prepare its tax return until August 2014.WIT Academy provides after school math support to middle school children in Vallejo, CA. In Vallejo, fewer than 25% of middle school children are proficient on the California state standards test in mathematics. Of 167 unified school districts in California with enrollment of 5,000 or more, Vallejo ranks 163rd in mathematics proficiency.During the past fiscal year, WIT Academy has begun paying salaries, filing quarterly payroll tax returns and learning to maintain a general ledger, (although we find we are still making a lot of mistakes, causing us to be late on our April 30, 2014 tax return). We are attempting to clean up our act and promise to get our record keeping up to date quickly. Based on the above, we humbly request abatement of the late filing penalties.
