THE AKRON AREA ARTS ALLIANCE'S MISSION IS TO PROMOTE THE VALUE OF A STRONG, DIVERSE AND VIBRANT ARTS AND CULTURE COMMUNITY IN GREATER AKRON. WE ARE COMMITTED TO BEING A LEADING ADVOCACY ORGANIZATION FOR ARTS AND CULTURE THROUGH REPRESENTATION OF THE COLLABORATIVE VOICE OF THE ARTS RELATED NON- PROFIT COMMUNITY IN AKRON. ACCORDINGLY, WE SEEK TO BUILD PUBLIC AWARENESS CONCERNING THE VALUE OF ARTS AND CULTURE TO OUR AREA'S ECONOMY AND ITS QUALITY OF LIFE AND ITS PLACE IN BUILDING A DYNAMIC, THRIVING COMMUNITY WHERE PEOPLE WANT TO LIVE, WORK, PLAY AND STAY. THIRD ACCOMPLISHMENT DESCRIPTION

WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF A GRANT PROVIDED BY THE KNIGHT FOUNDATION. THE THIRD FLOOR CURRENTLY HAS SEVEN ARTIST STUDIOS, A GALLERY, AND SPACE FOR AN ARTS ORGANIZATION TO HOLD WORKSHOPS AND CLASSES FOR ITS MEMBERS. THE STUDIOS ARE AVAILABLE AT A DISCOUNTED RATE. ONE OF OUR GOALS FOR SUMMIT ARTSPACE IS TO ADD ADDITIONAL STUDIOS AS WE CURRENTLY HAVE A WAITING LIST OF ARTISTS INTERESTED IN STUDIO SPACE. THE ARTSPACE CREATES AN ATMOSPHERE THAT ENCOURAGES HEIGHTENED COLLABORATION AMONG ITS TENANTS AND EXPOSES THE PUBLIC TO DIFFERENT TYPES OF CREATIVITY.

THE ALLIANCE ALSO OPERATED TWO ADDITIONAL SIGNIFICANT PROGRAMS DURING THE YEAR: ARTCETERA AND ARTSYMART. ARTCETERA IS A GROUP FOR YOUNG PROFESSIONALS AGES TWENTY TO FORTY. ITS FUNDAMENTAL PURPOSE IS TO DEVELOP AND ENHANCE APPRECIATION, UNDERSTANDING, AND CONTINUED SUPPORT FOR THE ARTS AMONGST YOUNGER PEOPLE IN THE GREATER AKRON AREA. THE GROUP PROVIDES ARTS-RELATED NETWORKING AND SOCIAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUNG PROFESSIONALS AND ARTS ENTHUSIASTS. ARTSYMART WAS HELD DURING NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER OF 2012. THE MART PROVIDED AN OPPORTUNITY FOR ARTISTS TO DISPLAY AND SELL THE FRUITS OF THEIR TALENTS DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON. PARTICIPANTS WERE ABLE TO RENT BOOTH SPACE AND WE PROVIDED SOME ADVERTISING FOR THE EVENT. A TOTAL OF 39 EXHIBITORS PARTICIPATED.
