1	Briefly describe the organization’s mission or most significant activities: Established in 1946, the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce is a membership organization that works to preserve the best possible business climate and quality of life for Shawnee. There are nearly 700 business members in this organization continuing to grow, thanks, in part, to a strong community commitment of making Shawnee succeed. The Shawnee Chamber Corporation (501C6) is comprised of three divisions: the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce, the Shawnee Economic Development Council, and the Shawnee Convention and Visitor's Bureau. These organizations have different missions, but they are united in one overall effort: to make Shawnee a great place to do business, whether you are a visitor, a company, or a resident. All divisions are located at the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce headquarters on the southwest corner of Shawnee Mission Parkway and Lackman Road. The Chamber offices are on the second floor of the Metcalf Bank. The exact address is: 15100 West 67th St.

	Membership Dues and Sponsored Events:Weekly EventsWeekly Events include: (a) 7:30 a.m. Wednesday Networking. Grab some coffee and conversation at these informal events that allow individuals to meet and network with more than 40 Chamber members and guests in attendance. (b) Coffee/Ribbon Cuttings introduce you to a new, existing or expanding business on Tuesday or Thursdays. Monthly Events include: (a) Membership Luncheons are held the second Wednesday of each month with up to 150 people in attendance. The featured guest speaker and program changes monthly and is chocked full of information vital to doing business in Shawnee, Johnson County and the Kansas City metropolitan area. (b) Business After Hours are usually on a Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. with 50 to 75 member attendees. It includes food, beverages, great networking opportunities and an opportunity for the member business to showcase their business. Annual Events include: (a) Break out the formal attire for the Annual Dinner, the premier Shawnee Chamber of Commerce event that is always the last Saturday in January. The Chamber's biggest event of the year is always sure to entertain, educate and dazzle attendees. There is always something new and different at each event but there will always be a review of the accomplishments of the previous year, introductions of the incoming Chamber leadership and awards will be given. Generous donations for an outstanding live and silent auction and gracious sponsors of the event help build contributions that go to the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce scholarship fund. (b) The Golf Tournament is one of the most popular Chamber events, typically selling out every year. This event is a standard at the Shawnee Chamber, bringing the fun of golf and networking together in one outstanding tournament with great prizes. It is in May and registration is available as a team. This is also one of the Chamber's best sponsorship opportunities for businesses. (c) Business Expo is the Shawnee way to meet the community, promote your business and add to your bottom line. This event is the only one of its kind that brings the community directly to the exhibitors. If your market is in Shawnee, your business better be at the Business Expo! The Expo is every year in the fall at the Shawnee Civic Centre. Community Leadership Program: Shawnee Tomorrow Leadership Program is a community leadership program offering a behind-the-scenes look at the critical issues and challenges facing the Shawnee area. Those selected to be a part of this prestigious group attend sessions that focus on current events, initiatives and future planning sessions. Alumni of the program are some of the best and brightest leaders in the community today. Shop Shawnee: Community partnership between The Shawnee Dispatch, the City of Shawnee and the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce. The campaign encourages residents of Shawnee to shop locally and support local retail and service businesses.

	The Shawnee Economic Development Council (SEDC) has been helping others succeed since it was established in 1994. The SEDC is a partnership effort between the City of Shawnee, Shawnee Chamber of Commerce and the Shawnee business community that is in existence to assist Shawnee's business development and growth of current and future business climate. This is done through efforts that would bring new business to Shawnee, such as new corporations, retail and restaurant establishments as well as new manufacturing and light industrial companies. The SEDC also helps those businesses already in Shawnee continue to succeed by offering unique business learning opportunities, expansion efforts, networking and sharing of business knowledge. The SEDC is proud to be a member of this community that works to help others get ahead for a better future for Shawnee.

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 6	Classes of members: approximately 800 members made up of Active (individuals and/or business entity, each member is allowed 1 vote), Honorary (distinction in public affairs or previous chamber service, same privileges of active members), Shawnee City Officials.
Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 7a	The members of the Chamber annually elect the board of directors based upon nominations set-forth by the Nominating Committee. New Directors are installed in January of the beginning term year(s). The executive committee (officers) are elected by majority vote of the board.
Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11	The Form 990 is prepared by a CPA firm hired by the Organization after the audited financial statements are completed by the same independent CPA firm. A draft of the Form 990 is sent to the executive director and management for their review. Once all questions have been resolved, the Form 8879 is signed by the executive director giving permission to electronically file the Form 990 with the appropriate agency.
Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12c	The Chamber monitors compliance each year by ensuring that each office and director has completed a conflict interest statement and it is kept on file throughout the year.
Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15a	Compensation process for top official the compensation of the president/ceo is reviewed and approved. Annually by the executive committee which is comprised of the officers of the organization.
